Ok everyone..Everytime I build a city with 175,000 plus I lose my residence (they dont grow and if I delete the home, it never comes back. I lost the residential bar, although the commercial and the industrial are still there.

I have ati graphics (radeon 9800 pro), 768 mb with 27% utilized,  22 gb free. Everything else seems to be working fine on my computer.
EA, doesnt seem to know what the problem is.
Thanks
Anderjaa
P.S. I have simcity Deluxe and running Rush Hour

The best explanation I can think of is that it is due to demand caps. Build demand cap buster structures like civic buildings, parks, landmarks e.t.c.

that wasnt a problem with all the civic centers, parks, etc that I had..The commercial was up to the top, the residencial was up to the top and if the mayor rating was any higher it would be off the bar. Industrial was doing great also. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

If commercial is at the top, give them more commerce, then the sims will have more jobs.  A working sim has a home doesn't he?

The odd thing about this is I go to build any residentical in any area it will not grow to homes, yet if I put commercial or industrial there, it will grow. If I take a perfectly build building (residentical) $$$ and backhoe it, nothing will grow in the area. It doesnt matter where I have backhoed it, there will be no homes at all. The only thing that it retains is the green ground for building the homes. I could have every ammity available in that area and still only green building grass. The housing goes when the rci lines leaves in only the residential.

I really appreciate any help 1.gif

PS the homes are surrounded by work available for the sims.

Wait a minute, there needs to be some clarity. I am confused about your question and the answers that were given. People are asking you about demand caps, and you talking about Homes going away but you gave system specs.

Is this a graphics problem or a gameplay problem?

Sounds to me like you need more jobs then, if the I and C keep building (but the R does not).  Perhaps try to create more jobs in an adjacent city (build lots of I and C there) if you really want more R the city you're talking about.

Another possibility would be to build higher density buildings.  You may have to upgrade your transportation networks and some of your other services, but (and a big but, because it really sounds to me like you need MORE jobs available to your sims) more sims SHOULD move in if there are jobs available to support them.

This is what I am trying to figure out. The graphic card is ATI Raedon 9800 Pro. I am not sure but maybe there are some setting wrong in my simcity. I have tried various ones and still the same. In the graph area there are the blue and the yellow, but no green. I do get sims moving in as the sims increase in number, but no green on the RCI and the graph. If I click on the green area from a bulldozed home, it is showing me the spec's as if there were a residential home there. Gee figure that out???

Can you think of anything else..LOL I know my eyes are quite bad, but not that bad LOL

OK! Sounds like a graphics problem or a bad copy of the game. (Don't know why people are talking about demand at this point) Take Princes suggestion and start a new city. Or try re-installing the game. The ATI Radeon is a pretty common card, I have the 9200SE and have had no problems with it.

Everyone does get this problem that i know of, its a demand cap. Basically when your city cant grow anymore! (for a while) It takes about a few years or so (in the game of course lol) for me to see the residental bars back up near the top. And yes it does suck26.gif, but then again the game tries to be realistic.

One thing that i usually will do add more commercial, industrial and set up some highways and some mass transit. I find this (in my opinion) to start bringing down the cap.

    @MiniMark
he's saying that for some reason buildings don't show up in his game... he queries a blank zoned area, and instead gets building stats....

    @anderjaa
are you using or have you ever used a No-CD patch? what about updating the game? did that go ok?

If I bulldoze all of the $$$ homes, they never come back, no matter where in the city that they were deleted. It stay the color of green as if I am waiting for sims to move in. Commercial is high and low, so there are plenty of jobs available. Industrial and commercial do grow. The crime is low, there is slight air pollution, no water pollution and well watered. The mayor rating of off the green area, so it is in the plus. There is over 200 billion available in the month end cash. There are train stations, civic centers, all ammities available for the sims. Health and Education are over funded.

I added a part to the city; schools-education etc. The commercial is low and the homes for the sims are not being built. The schools and hospitals are empty. Civic centers galore (just to see) Plenty of employment, but no one has moved in. I have 200,000 sims living in the city. After I lose the residential bar in the RCI, and the residence graph, these homes stop growing. or just completly stay green when bulldozed. I could leave the game in fast speed for a hour and things with the homes still have not changed.

EA had told me to delete programs running the background, which was tried. Actually no help at all. I would love to finish a complete city, and finish an entire region.

I have updated all that need to be updated at EA, and I am running no CD-patch.

    Hi,

There is a certain relationship between residential and commerce/industry. If u dont put any commercial or industrial zones, ur city will grow uptil some extent and then STOP! The demand falls to zero. But commerce nad industry is high. Wat the problem is that the people need jobs in their city, or a city near them. Put some industrial and commercial zones. Then see how the R demand springs up and ur city starts growing again. I have personally experienced this problem and what I think this wud be a very reasonable solution to ur problem.

    Hi Amigo,

There is industry in the city. I have devoted about 1/3rd of the city for this, in which the sims have access, via bus, train or bridge. The new residential and commercial that I built in this city is the closest to industrial, but no one has moved moved into this area. Schools and Hospitals are empty. I let it run fast for about a half a hour and still no change. Using God mode for trees, commercial moves up more (larger buildings), but housing doesnt budge at all. I would love to just see even a sparce sign of some green on the RCI or even in the graph, but there is no green at all. What I am looking at is no one lives in the city and there is no such thing as Residential areas, like the commercial and the industrial.

I did do some playing around with the computer last night. Deleted zone alarm, upgraded the graphic's card (Radeon) to a higher version and downloaded the current version of direct X. Will be interesting to see how things go, when I go back into the game today. I will let everyone know if anything changes.

I would also like to know how to find out which person has built, what in the lot exchange. There are some fine lots, bats, props, etc. and after trying them I dont know who they belong to, so I can give them credit.  This is a fine site, and somehow EA should give some monies towards this site, so you all can keep up the good work. An excellent job has been done.

    @anderjaa

    i should've PM'd you about this, i don't remember....

anyways, i noticed you use a no-cd patch... those can cause conflicts

im guessing here's what you did:

install SC4, install the no-cd patch, then updated the game.

if that's what you did, you'll have problems. see, no-cd patches are designed for certain versions of the game, and when you update the game, the version changes, that is the EXE file changes.... of course, since no-cd patches usually replace the original EXE, the update patch doesn't update successfully, as it can't find the original EXE... my only advice is either don't use the no-cd patch, or download a no-cd patch for the 1.1.638.0 version of the game

Hi, I am still doing some reading on the problem. The upgrades did not work for me. Found out that the ATI is a huge memory hog, but I have 750 ram and 125 for the ATI. I am finding out that the problem may be the large region that I am working on.

When I said no-cd, I dont have that.
    Thanks

I remember that in the readme file of the game, it mentioned somehting about the ATI video cards and it also mentioned a specific ATI card. Do read it and then let us know.

Thought I would send this along too:

    2.  Known Issues

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Anti-virus Software:  having anti-virus software enabled while playing
SimCity 4 Deluxe / Rush Hour can significantly degrade the performance
    of the game.

Occasional Crashes after Playing Opening Movie under Windows ME:  There
is an occasional crash in SimCity 4 Deluxe / Rush Hour running under
Windows ME after the intro movie completes.  To avoid this crash, run
the game with the command line option -introff.  This will disable
    the opening movie completely.

SimCity 4 Deluxe / Rush Hour Game Performance:  You can adjust the
performance and visual quality of the game by selecting different
graphics options.  To change these settings, click the options button,
    then the graphic options button.

Hardware Color Cursor Support:  Some cards have problems displaying a
color hardware cursor. If cursor flickering occurs while playing the game,
try updating the graphics drivers, and, failing that, deselecting Color
Cursor in the Graphic Options panel.  Additionally, color hardware cursors
can be turned off with the command line option -Cursors:bw

Full-screen Anti-aliasing:  SimCity 4 Deluxe / Rush Hour will not run with
full-screen anti-aliasing turned on.  FSAA may be turned off in the Display
Properties window, under the Settings tab.  Select the Advanced button and
then find the graphics card manufacturer's tab.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    3.  Command Line Options

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Audi

-audion|off  Enables or disables all audio for the application
-music:on|off  Enables or disables all music for the application

    Graphics:

-Cursors:bw|fullcolor Sets the color depth of the game cursors
-d:DirectX|Software Sets the graphics driver for SC4

It's completely normal. I built a huge city and at a point, residential demand was at the lowest possible while industrial and commercial shot up. I just zoned for industrial and commercial and suddenly they both go down and it is balanced. The city turned out to be a complete success.
