Simple, Functional Lots by dhoppe

This is what I discovered with one of my early TE lots. It grew well, too well, and although there was great demand for higher wealth CS the rows of this lot never upgraded. Others did but this particular one stayed in rows until I did a bulldozing session and then the higher wealth grew. It is fine for Stage 8 $$$ lots as they have nothing to upgrade to but any others can be a nuisance.

Dan,

They look great...certainly make great eye candy.  What about adding those to the farm entrance set you were working on to add to the other entrance set that is already out there?

As for what Barby said, I didn't know that either...good to know though.  Keep em coming... 19.gif

Well, I had a few minutes this morning to work on something that I personally needed for my game.  I really like using many of the lots provided on STEX, especially from SG.  However some of these lots are not TE'd and many of the growables available are not TE'd.  I recently added the Hampton Inn hotel to Harper Mills in my CJ.  I didn't like the way it looked when placed on the street.  So, I created some textures using a street texture that came with one of the Japanese lots.  Here is what I came up with:

159.jpg    265.jpg
As of right now, I have three TE'd lots.  An intersection type lot, a TEE type lot and a corner lot.  The only thing I need to get right is the grass texture as the base.  I have put a lighter version in there, but it seems to come up looking very bright....I know that the grass texture is a Maxis supplied texture and I think that they have some that will change color and/or appearance in-game.  I have noticed this with some of their concrete textures.  Someone, please correct me if I am loopy here.
I do have some minor modding to do to these lots and the would like to get them uploaded to the STEX if it appears that they could be of use to others.
Comments and suggestions are welcome.
<EDIT>
I took care of the grass color.  The lot was marked as High Wealth.  Not what I need, so I changed that and took some pics from one of my CJ cities.

Wow! that looks very realistic. I really like how that looks. I hope you don't mind me leaving this Picture here, since it's not post on this page. Anyways this is absolutely something I really like, just because of how realistic this looks!

Thanks for all the great comments folks.  I really haven't had much time as of late to do much at all.  I have barely had enough time to keep up with LaPlaisance County.  Anyway, after seeing some posts regarding the Gated Entrance lot I put together, I felt like it was time to update it.  The following is a pic of some changes I am making as well as additional lots to create a true gated community.

You can see that I have added a stone walkway around the perimeter and changed the gate.  The flora is a bit dense right now, but that is on purpose.  I wanted to throw different things in to see what I liked best.  After testing these lots out in game, I realized that there are a few more that I would need to make.  Right now there is the entrance lot and (6) 1 X 1 lots.  I would really appreciate any feedback or things you would like to see.

I am planning to make a Security stlye addition, but am waiting for a reply from a friend to create the props I need.

dhoppe! Amazing, truly functional and simple as you say. I was wondering, when i plop your gated community entrance, there are supposed to be streets but instead there are some diagonal cycle ways. What is going on? It was all right until today.

Anways, thanks a lot for your contributions.

    Michael or misha

Uh oh. That's not good. I think somehow, the two instance numbers got mixed up (they're next to each other), it hasn't happened to me. Have you re-arranged your plugins folder? Try to keep the two texture packs together, if you can.

    Nine degrees of separation??

Thanks Jacky and Michael.  Regarding the texture problem.  There is indeed a conflict between two of the textures.  I took a look at it SA and the textures you created for me, used the same instance number as one of your cycle way textures.  I have made a modification to the original texture and may just rerelease the lot with the updated texture that will have a different iid.

Anyway, I wanted to show everyone what I have been working on these last few days.  You may remember the lot I showed you a while back with the building that aldara created.  Well, the lot is almost ready for release.  I have been teaching myslef to create custom queries as well as create a growable of the lot.  Here is a screen shot of the query.......(taken from aldara BAT thread2.gif)

Look for the lot to be released soon.....

I am proud to announce that myself and aldara6166 have teamed up to create RJM Design.

aldara aka Jason will be doing the BAT work, prop work and some texture work while I will be doing the lot work, including custom queries, TE'ing and the rest of the modding work.  We have completed our first project which can be found here .  It is the Peterson Tool Specialties Manufacturing Lot.  I am working to create a growable version of this lot without the TE'd function, but at this time it is only a ploppable.  I would also like to point out that Jason did the custom overlay textures for this lot.  It was his first attempt at lot textures and I think he did an exceptional job.

Our most recent project is the American Hardware Supply building.  Below is the first in game screenshot I have.  Of course this is just a prelimenary look at the lot and not the finished product.  Any suggestions or comments will always be welcome.  The TE'ing function that you see can be ignored, I used a pre-existing lot that was TE'd to start the project.  If you would like to follow the progress of our projects at conception and model phase, you can take a look here .

I got home from work last night, and what to my wondering eyes did appear...but an in-game shot of the BAT that I most recently emailed to Dan for a lot!

Lord_Bertrum and Sorchin...thank you both for the compliments.  I can't wait to start seeing these BATs in some CJ's.

Dan, the lot looks great.  What about taking the road on the left side and making it a custom brick sidewalk texture.  That way, the fire escape goes down to a sidewalk.  Just a thought...

It all looks great... keep em coming! 44.gif

Thank you to everyone who have been following my lot work here in this thread.  Since teaming up with aldar6166 to create RJM Design, my lots don't seem to be Simple anymore2.gif.

With that said, I would like to direct you all to our team thread, RJM Design BATs here .

Again, thanks for following along and be sure to check out some of the cool industrial projects that we are working on at the moment.
