Overlaying higher density?

Hello all!  Just found this forum after randomly browsing around YouTube and seeing various videos of Sim City 4 stuff.  It seemed like the right place to come and ask my question about rezoning areas.

If I have a block of Low Density Residential and I overlay Medium Density Residential without dezoning first, nothing seems to change, even on full speed.  I know I have enough people to grow some Medium zones, as other ones I've placed as Medium out the gate have sprouted up just fine. Same question with regards to Commercial zones.

Do I need to dezone first then lay down the new, upgraded Zone tiles or will it sort of "Just go" without my having to smash alot of houses and businesses?

Thank you in advance!

hi 4.gif

when you zone middle density you desperately need water and demand for jobs or houses. otherwise there will come no construction sites and 'upgrading' your buildings, fabrics or comercial zones.

Also just plop waterpumps and watch growing your city fast ! and dont forged a good transportation network for all the new folks to get fast to theyre work <4.gif

Also, check to make sure the building in question has not been Historically Designated. It won't upgrade if it has been.

Heh, I don't think I've every historically designated anything! So water and high demand should push those low densities now upgraded into medium to flourish. Ok, so noted. Have to give it a go. It just seemed like a waste of money to have to knock down everything then rezone!

    Thank you for the info!
