Le Printemps est arivé.

Spring is sprung

The grass is rize

The bird is on the wing ....

That's absurd

The wing is on the bird.

Really? I always assumed March 1st was the first day of Spring. The lambing started weeks ago, bluebells and flowers are blooming everywhere. The weather has changed dramatically. Certainly smells like Spring!

It's one of those meteorological things.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. You're about 30 years too late on that, Meg. 2.gif People in The Bronx don't talk like that anymore.

Astronomical, actually. It's about the position of the Earth in its orbit. Which is why you get not just a day but also a time of that day.

Well, you guys have the Gulf Stream pointed at you. So you get shorter, milder winters. Flowers only started popping out of the ground in the past week here, and the trees haven't budded quite yet.

Actually, now that you mention it, it was 32 years ago that I heard it.  3.gif

Remember, it's not spring everywhere. We here in the southern hemisphere are moving into autumn.

So happy Autumnal Equinox, for those in my hemisphere.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

This year March came in like a lamb.  After yesterdays dramatic drop in temperature and the ice storm my grass is all white again.  I guess that means March is going out like a lion.  Rowwr.

And for people everywhere, here come the equinoctal gales.

The media here run stories about the "start of Spring" three times a year.

On the Irish calendar, it's 1 February (it places the equinoxes and solstices at the centre of the seasons, rather than the beginning - so midsummer falls on the summer solstice for example).

    Meteorologically, it's 1 March.

    Astronomically, it's ~21 March.

At least now we've got no confusion, it's definitely Spring! 10.gif

That said, the "signs" of Spring (animals, plants) have been going on for a few weeks here too, after an incredibly harsh winter (by our standards).

    Roll on Summer 2010...

And, as we all know, Easter is the first Sunday after the full moon after the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.  Do the antipodes have a different canonical calendar?

No, we celebrate Easter on the same day as you. Just replace Vernal with Autumnal.

See what a sensible bunch the Aussies are?  The Brits deported some of their best people to the penal colonies, what?
