Hi!

So, I bought Cities XL on the weekend, and I have alot of questions. By holding off on mass transit I am able to get my population up and rocking until it reaches 150,000 when there is massive traffic and manufacturing problems.

Generally I figured out that unless if you have atleast 50,000$ coming in on your budget not to get the busses.

Problem #1

When playing on the plains, I find that I have a very low fuel reserve. Now on a current map, I have 0 Fuel, and my industries are looking for it like mad and will not expand without them, so, how do you get it? I built an airport (which ended up putting me more in debt) and there is still no trade option. Was it surpressed when they took it off the World mode?

Problem #2

How the heck do you build bridges, looked at the tutorials and well there is nothing there anymore...

Problem #3

I am finding it harder and harder to find jobs for my different levels of people. IE Unskilled/Skilled/Execs/Elite. What sort of jobs does each prosper at?

Problem #4

Megastructures... where do I find them? At the same token, where can if you can, create your own maps etc... or find them.

I think that is it for now, anyone able to provide me with any insight on this game will be forever my new BFF.

Thanks!

1. So you are looking in the trade panel and can't find anyone who wants to sell to you? Or are you trying to find more fuel on your map?

2. Well, they are a bit tricky I guess, you select the bridge tool, hold shift and move the mouse wheel to change the height, then click along to set points just like when building any other road. You have to try to not make the ramp too steep, but you'll need to get the bridge high enough to cross whatever you're crossing (unless you get the bridge height mod which makes this a bit easier.) When you've got it over the river or whatever, and all your points set and it's green, you click again to build just like with any other road.

3. The higher-end jobs in more desirable industries are better for the higher-end people. So farms and dirty industry hire more unskilled workers, while high-tech and offices need more of the executives and elites, manufacturing's more in the middle.

4. Megastructures (you may also hear them called Blueprints) were a Planet Offer thing (the online, MMO aspect of the game) but as that wasn't doing well enough the PO has been canceled and the game made single-player only. The plan right now is for those buildings to make it over to the single player game through some future expansion pack or in CXL2011, a revised version of this game due out....sometime (there are plenty of threads about this). So in short, Megastructures are not available to us right now. There are also not extensive map creation tools at this point, though there is a terraforming mod that may make it more possible to work with a map to make it what you want.

Here's the mods available:

You'll see there's a money cheat mod (the sandbox one) if you are interested in that, it would solve some of your money issues, but it is a cheat and means removing a lot of the challenge of the game if that is what you are playing for.

In response, for number 1, I open my trade panel, and there is nothing there... as for the cheating, may give it a whirl lol 9.gif so you just download them and than what?

Also, can you place the things you download in a seperate folder much like we could do with Sim City?

Posts combined; please use the edit button on the lower right to add a thought.

    /\ Sorry

As for the problems it is fine, I just find it harder to maintain the positive gains, I have played with the Trading menu, a little headachy, but I shall get used to it.

You just download the mod and put it in the PAKS folder. Haven't tried putting them in a different folder, but have thought about it, give it a whirl and report back. But I'd think it would work.

So have you gotten the trade menu to work or not?
