hello all

been downloading lots of mods for sim city 4 and lot of bats offer 2-3 versions of the bat (plopable, landmark and grownable) and the author of the bat sais "choose one of em and install". Now my question is : is there a problem if i install all of em ? will it cause problems in game or ... ?

no, in this case you won't have anyway problems directly. if you want the lot the grow i would suggest only installing the growable, and using the extra cheats dll to plop the building if you ever want to do that. also, the less items in your menus, the smoother they will open (especially if you have alot of plugins).

By keeping all of them from the same download ,you restrain your gameplay a little bit without having much of a choice of different BATs. Filling up the Pluginsfolder will eventually slow down your game to a point where it is not playable anymore.

So choose your downloads wisely and keep only those you really need and/or want.

I also recommend adding only one or two at a time and PROVING it in your play.. at least in a "sand lot city" before you add a pile of crap into your plugins and have no understanding of how they work or if they have problems or if you're missing any dependencies, etc. Many an over enthusiastic newcomer has added a pile of stuff only to find they had to do a LOT of work to find problems

well then i think i am one of those "over enthusiastic newcomer" as  i have over 4 GB of stuff in plugins folder lol (around 2k-3k files in all)... altho the game works fine and has little to now slowdowns even when opening building menus, i might experience a misterous CTD from time to time but thats bout it, got a plugin that reminds me of saving every 20 min so i aint affraid of  CTDs.

With 4GB+ of plugins, you should really consider using the Dat Packer.

4 GB's ain't too much and I think it is about what most of us have, all depending on our machines also. I have 14.7 GB's, got the machine for it, not using DATPacker and have some slowdowns at RH times in bigger Cities. Takes me freaking 5 minutes to find a specific lot in the Park or LM menu...lol

Anyways, I have a choice of lots and BATs that is beyond "believebility" (I wonder, does that word exist or did I just invent it?) but that is thanks to carefully having chosen my downloads by not keeping every lot from the same download.

Choice to me is very important, the more the better and also more interesting to play. Everytime something grows in a corner of my map, there is kinda of a anxiety and surprise, because sometimes it takes years and years for one specific lot to grow, especially if you don't zone the size that it needs, therefor it is a lot of fun playing with a carful selected Pluginsfolder. Also a lot of times you forget what you downloaded with time and when it grows.....wow....where did that come from?

A good start makes it worthwhile playing. Ihave seen a lot of folks leaving SC4 after only a few weeks, sometimes for other reasons, but also because their pluginfolders get too mixed up, complicated and too big. A slowing and crashing game is usually the mainthing why we leave a game that could otherwise be fun for a long time, like me, I haven't stopped since the day it came out.......and just like you, call me freak or a fanatic, I just love custom stuff.

So, I recommend to get your pluginsfolder tidyed up and have fun for a long time.

Here's an example why I love this game below. Just a little corner of one little town and no LOT or BAT repeats, they're all different, and the bigger house in the middle, I just saw it for the first time and have no idea, nor any souvenir where the heck it's from.......and that's what I like.

true words my fanatic friend , i've been playing sim city 4 since it came out and i fell in love with custom content, been downloading and creating my custom stuff collection for some years now

anyways, and here i was thinking 4 GB are alot, i dont think my machine can handle as much as u have but whatever.

 I've downloaded some new stuff and im experiencing some nasty CTDs so i decided to delete all plugin folder and start re-re-re-redownload everything (this might take huge amount of time because i intend to go trough all 700+ pages of STEX ), this time maybe organizing everything,  cause over the ages the plugin folder became a huge mess of all sorts of files, trying to organize whats inside is equal to suicide lol.

nice screen , ive been trying to download bats and lots so i dont see repeating stuff over and over again but failed

thank to heitomat and his tip about data packer, the loading times are very low , either when loading cities or when opening build menus
