CXL Crashes big on Win7

I just bought Cities XL after a long consideration time and problems is all I get...

Game installed and auto updated ok. Started game first time and played tutorial for a while and then suddenly my screen goes black and everyhing stops. No messages, no sounds, nothing. Only reset-button helps to get my pc going on. I started game again, but when I wanted to quit playing and selected QUIT (I think I should get back to desktop after this) everything goes black again. And I reset.

I updated drivers for my graphic card and tried to start game after that -> intro starts, I press ESC to skip and then black screen comes once again and everything stops.

I read some messages from here and CXL site but couldn't find answer so I thought I post here if someone can help me. This game is the first game/program that crashes this bad after I installed Win 7! Usually no crashes at all...

I have: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, ATI Radeon HD 5750 (1gb), 8 gb RAM, Win 7 Home Premium 64bit, Comodo Firewall and anti-virus.

BTW: Win 7 reported me just that I had problems in Video system and "Live Kernel Event"...?

If someone can help me at least a little bit, that would be super! Thank you.

Live Kernel Event is shown after the computer crashes, it's called a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death).

Normally, these crashes are caused by the graphics-card. That happens probably because the ATI driver crashed.

A driver can crash because of over-clocking (I think more then 5%), wrong input (like games which have some bugs -> Cities XL) etc.

Do you overclock you're graphics-card?

Maybe you could try to uninstall the ATi Drivers (Catalyst Control), then reinstall cleanly.

I hope this might info helps.. 4.gif

Thank you from your help! Actually, I have no idea what happened, but I started game later today (without doing re-installing etc.) and it worked well! I checked from game's options menu video settings and game had put on it's own new resolution setting which is 1360x768. It's strange, because if I remember right, CXL site says game doesn't support that resolution. I can't select that 1360x768 resolution again from the menu, if I chance it to something else (to get that back I had to undo new resolution setting). But I played for a few hours, quit, started again, played and quit. No crashes, no problems getting back to desktop. Worked just great.

So, like you guys wrote, crashing had something to do with my ATI. I hope it will work in future too, but I'm not too optimistic. Thank you anyway!

That might be, I hope you can play the game normal without crashes.

Actually, ATI driver crash less then NVIDIA Drivers.

I remember a article released by Microsoft, a few weeks ago, showing a graph about the cause of crashes on Windows.

It was based on results sent back to Microsoft. It showed that about 30% of all crashes was caused by Nvidia while ATI remained at 9%.

This is not entirely representable because there are more NVIDIA cards sold worldwide then ATI.
