Choosing Names

For all those sick of settling for stupid names for their cities/regions/rivers/roads,

First names work well for Roads/Rivers, Last names good for cities/regions. If the name doesn't work, suffixes such as -dale, -ley, -ton, -boro(u)gh.

(Personally I just use the last names of the Law & Order cast; the cities of Waterston, Orbach and Parkerson are quite lively, but this is certainly good for quick names)

Usually when I start a new region, I pick a real life region (say, eastern Ontario) and just pick names of towns in that region. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...

I usually choose names of the cities either from real life or from taking queues from the terrain.  As an example, I might name a city in the desert 'Dry Horse' or 'Scurry'. A city along the ocean I might name 'Waterton' or 'Clear Bay'.  Point is, choose names you like and be creative.

you could also try using song names for city names if you want something unique. i'm a big Dave Matthews Band fan and i just started a new region where i use DMB song titles as city names. you could either use part of the actual title like "Punzel" (Rapunzel), "Pantala" (Pantala Naga Pampa), Grux, or use acronyms of the song titles. ex- American Baby Into + Stay or Leave = Abisol.
