Hello everybody

I'm looking for for an addon who allows to add some graffiti and tag for our cities to be more realistic. I believe that it doesn't existe yet but if someones know how to do or have an idea to make this, i would be very interested.

Thanks!!

I suppose the only way to make it would be to modify an existing building. It would require making new textures, but i am sure it can be done.

I personally have no modding experience so cannot help you further, however i hope i have started the ball rolling for what is potentially a new level of realism to an already fantastic (although outdated) game.

Well, I think the crime map would show lots of graffiti. 3.gif But, for the buildings to really show it you would have to change the textures as bigthing said. I think it is in the process if being created by a member, but I would love to make some one day.

I'm not sure what you mean, but there already is graffiti ( a closs of several "paint jobs") that show on buildings in crime neighborhoods (on commercial only I believe). There also is a problem (very minor) where it shows up on numerous buildings even without crime. I believe there is some custom lot somewhere where the maker used the class number for something else and if you have that is just shows up.. somettimes quite often. It shows up in my cities, but I've never bothered to track down the "offender'.. or perhaps it is even a bug in the Maxis version.. I don't know. There is a thread on that issue over on SC4D.. a search for "graffitti" should find it rather easily there

ok so the only way is to change a building already existing but when we use LE, we can see in props that maxis has done some graffiti which can be used on every building so this is not possible to create props like this?

I'm not the expert on this, but I'd certainly think you could provide your own graffiti and use the Maxis group numbers.. I think that would make them appear randomly mixed in with the Maxis one's at random (like other "group props") You could probably follow the template provided in the Maxis graffiti. I suppose you could even write your own custom LUA's and a whole new set of props and a new group number.. You'd have to check how to do that, but I've seen these done before (group props that is)

or you could take the easy route, and just download some custom buildings with graffiti already on it - goofyguytpa has some great ones, and vanderaap has some tagged dutch buildings.

As it happens I am in the process of putting together a graffiti pack. I happen to live with two talented legal & otherwise graffiti artists and am making versions of their work, 1. as a prop pack for BATters & LOTters to use & 2. as an MMP that can be positioned manually. I haven't posted my results with this so far but it won't be long.

I will likely post my progress at SC4D where I have a thread https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=9362.100, but will probably start a new one for it.

that's great...really great. I'm too an old graffer. But in your package, you mean that this a package of buildings with graffiti or just graffiti?

I was just thinking, could someone make a lot that you plop onto a road but on the side (surrounded by an invisible texture) is some kind of graffiti tag? That way any building (with a suitable wall) could have graffiti!

that's I was thinking and i think that it is the method used by maxis. At the beginning, my idea was to make a pack of graffiti like this (nearly undred or more) in the park's menu for example. And we can plop it in all the walls that we want (walls of highway or rail's walls etc.) and if it' not possible, create graffiti's prop like maxis and use the lot editor to add them.

No it won't be buildings, just graffiti. One in a form that can be put on buildings in the LE and one in a Mayor Mode form that can (the way it's looking) be placed manually in game. It will contain both "tags", quick scrawls in black, and "pieces" full wall art. Fortunately these guys have years of work on file so I have a lot to draw upon. Once I have my winery project finished I will get the graffiti pack done (2 weeks or so)

The plan was to just feature the original work of my friends, but putting in some well known people's work/other styles are good ideas, maybe as separate packs. As for numbers of models it will contain as many as possible, you want as much variety as you can I think.

Hi, don't worry it's still happening. My winery has just taken longer than I thought but it's two days at most from completion now. I've been slowly cutting up various pieces and tags and creating their alphas so they can be used directly by LOTters and BATters. (They are rendered in HD) My experiments with placing them in game have been less successful but I believe there are ways that it can be done in a limited capacity.

    aIIqE.png

Here's an example of a nice piece with a transparent BG, almost ready to be placed on a wall.

    gvu60.jpg

Here's a quick example of the many hundreds of shots I have at my disposal, all original Adelaide work. As I've said it will include as broad a range as possible, both in terms of style, type & quality.

One of them is even working on a SC4 logo "graf style" to be included.

I will be posting my progress on this in my non-Aussie BAT thread here: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=9936.0,

    hopefully in the next week.

Wonderful!!! I don't have words to say what I think. If it's possible to use in the LE, that's already a good thing. But like you say it, I think that in the game, that's more difficult to have a good rendering...

But continue like that! That's great!

I do see graffiti on buildings(I think if u send a cop car over, it may disappear), but if you want lots of it, I think you can eitherA) Find it in the LE and make it bridge-mounted(E.G43.gifn the sides of buildings, bridges, etc)or B)Edit as many buildings as possible, which I don't reccomend. In fact A) will be my next Lot Project:Keep checking my thread, link below!

Nathan: these are currently just for use by other people with their buildings.

Couldn't resist showing this off, it's a version of the SC4 logo done in graffiti style by one of my housemates. I've just put it on a grass LOT in the LE to show the in game render quality. This is a HD prop at zoom 6, designed to cover much of the length and height of a wall.

My mate is going to do at least another version with more cityscape involved. My main thread for this stuff is here: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=9936.0

that's great, the look is good, wonderful but I suppose that is quite more difficult for tags and more little graffitis! Great job!!!

thanks, I'm glad someone likes it! I think it's cool.

As for the graffiti stuff I have changed track a bit. Rather than just focusing on a pack for other people to add to their buildings; I have decided to add them myself. The place where I most miss graffiti is along the train lines so I have made some graffiti covered walls that are placed randomly (via prop family), and are on the track lots themselves (so other buildings can grow right next to the track). They certainly aren't for all situations but in the right places look great IMO. I will try to get a shot of them up here soon, but currently my time is devoted to getting simmedieval up & running.

here's a shot of a proof of concept version of the walls I did. The walls here are just plain rectangles (and the texture is on both sides of the walls etc). I've since done a set with more detail & night lights but it's still not finished. I'm also undecided about doing these in SD or HD. They are about big enough to just be done in SD, and they look a lot better in Z5 that way. If you have any particular bits of graffiti you want added to one of the sections, post it here (or pm me)

The picture in the last post looks great, graffiti seems like a nice way to add a realistic feel to the downtrotten areas of the city ! Maybe even stuff like garbage cans, broken walls, or chain link fences would be fitting 4.gif

wouhouuuu, wonderful! Great job, I like it, except the texture of the roof's wall. But the graffs are just...amazing!! Please more!!

Maybe can you make some chromes and dirty tags in walls to plop it next rails or ghetto's park...

And also if you acn make walls like buddybud to plop it next to rail and highway...

When can you think upload your pack?

A last thing, in my opinion it will be better in HD...

Hi there, are there any updates to this thread? I'd really like to use these graffiti add-ons if they have been developed.

    cheers
