The Government of the United States is founded on the principle of Advise and Consent, but isn't this just a little to much advising without any consent (or consensus) in public.  I believe in transparency, especially at the highest levels.  This strikes me as being just a little much.

EDIT:  P.S.  I am not a U.S. citizen nor do I live in the United States.  Consider it a Canadian comment.

not learning from history repeats it self.

we have been there for 8 years with little to no progress.

The more information and advisement Obama gets, the better his decision will be. I don't think he should be criticized for taking time to make the best decision possible. Just look at TARP as an example of how bad things can come out of haste.

Problem is, he's not "taking time to make the best decision possible". He's stalling, because he knows that any decision he makes is going to get him a fair ammount of criticism, it being a controversial issue and all.

Meanwhile, indecision is a problem because the current troops there are stretched thin and the staus quo is unacceptable. Either more troops need to go in, or the current troops need to come out.

I would have been happy enough with either had the decision been made in September.... but it's almost Thanksgiving and we're still waiting for it. Use the pot or get off of it already! (to use a less vulgar paraphrasing of the saying)

This kind of thing is also called "paralysis by analysis". It is one of the real pitfalls of bad management. Obama needs to make a decision now and take his lumps. He should get rid of all his spin doctors.
