Hi there,

I have now a city with 250000 population but I think 50% off them is unqualified and I knew that Air pollution could become a big problem so when I started my city I put all my companies that give air pollution at the other side of the map but know is my city so big that the air pollution is in my living areas. What can I do against it? If I delete all my heavy industries, manufactories... then the unemployement will become a big problem! So, what can I do?

Greetings,

Rivel

I use only light industry and light manufacturing with just a small portion of my population being unqualifieds to support these. I then buy most of the waste, industry and manufacturing icons when the resource tab goes orange. Most maps I can find a secluded area to build a wind farm so I avoid heavy power plants also.

All combined it gives a bit of air pollution to the overall map but not enought to scare execs and elites away. I can also afford to make 1 or 2 heavy manufacturing lots since most of my cities concentrate on offices and I can use the most manufacturing I can get, but keeping in mind the lowest polution possible of course so I usually don't put more then a couple heavys.

you can always evolve your city which is what I am attempting! if you're an old simcity player you'll have fallen into the trap I did so I am slowly demolishing heavy industry and building up my high tech and offices at the same time pulling down the unqualified areas to make way for the other residents types. Of course you need to make enough money to buy in the industry that you need to support the high tech etc. Its a long process but Rome wasn't built in a day 4.gif

I have both electricity production, waste, manufactury, offices and high-tech production and tons of harbours - and its working out great, so you dont have to restart your city at all. There are ways to walk around the city wide pollution that dirty industry and other buildings produces, keep on playing and you will probably find out the tricks on your own. I could tell you how to do it, but I dont want to spoil your "aha-moment". That thing is priceless.

If only the wooded parks actually did something to combat the pollution problem.

Then if that we're the case it should cost to maintain them.

I also think that overall the pollution in the game is a bit excessive, it should be toned down a bit for manufacturing.

In the real world manufacturing generates more noise pollution than air pollution, most modern factories don't have smokestacks billowing out pollution.

But they can be quite noisy.

I also agree that there should be more power generation options... geothermal, natural gas, nuclear, tidal for coastlines, hydroelectric for landscapes with rivers...though hydro I suspect would be difficult to realistically implement, there would need to be a capacity in the game engine to dam up a river and create a lake. (probably better for CXL2)
