CitiesXL Planet Hall of Fame.

Hello everyone!

I was thinking about a great idea that would give CitiesXL a true purpose.

As we speak right now, we can build 5 cities per mayor, and that's about it. Once our cities are fully constructed, with blueprints and landmarks in them, the purpose of the game seems to stop and it gets a little bit boring. Unless you delete one of your cities, or purchase another account to get another 5 cities.

Here's the idea.

MC should open a new planet with NO cities on it. Nobody is allowed to start cities on that planet.

Then, on the regular planets, we build our cities, as usual, same concept. But once we are satisfied with the result of our city, we submit our city to the "special planet".

Then, MC review the submissions, one by one, and if your city is chosen, then they move your city to that "special planet", and the city is final. A final product. Like a painting you can admire. In order to have your submitted city chosen, certain criterias needs to be met (beauty, realism, skyline, tourism, etc). MC could determine the criterias for the cities.

Then, once you submit your city, and the city was chosen to be on the special planet, you can't go back. Those cities are final, nothing can be added or modified. Then, you go back on regular planets, and continue building new cities. That way, you still have a maximum of 5 cities per player, but if a city was chosen to be on the special planet, at least you gain another spot in your allotment. That way, you can always build new cities.

Requirements to have your city into the "Planet hall of fame" could be determined by MC. So that way, we would have a true purpose playing this game. Because right now, it seems that only people with 10M+ population feel proud about their cities, when in fact, the cities are griddy, ugly, and no originality.

That way, any mayor could decide to do small cities, medium size cities, large cities, and try to have their creations accepted into the Planet Hall of Fame.

It would be nice for us players logging in that special planet and view the creations of other people.

What do you think? I really want people to comment/react on this idea and I'm pretty sure it would be easy to do by MC.

Thanks all 4.gif

I think a HoF planet would be a great idea.  I think they would probably have to limit it to 1 HoF city per player, so if you wanted to put a new one in the HoF, you would lose the current HoF city.

It would be cool if they gave you a special landmark that you could place in your subsequent cities to commemorate your HoF mayor abilities.

I say more than 1 city per mayor. As long as you have the requirements, and the city gets chosen, you can move on and create more cities. The more cities you get on HoF planet, the more difficult it becomes for you (going through a level system). Some mayors are level 2, some mayors are level 8 for example.

The given landmark in the city is a good idea but not necessary. We all have access to blueprints, and that's the landmarks. One only special landmark for only the city would be too much work for them, we have other priorities than new landmarks.

Interesting idea. Seems fun. Some things to think about:

    1) This would require a ton of resources on MC's part, that they don't have. Maybe a group of volunteers could work with MC to coordinate this however.

    2) I would strongly suggest a more smooth navigability be implemented for maneuvering around the city and viewing it. Postcard mode is most beautiful, but still difficult with a mouse.

    3) I agree that after the city reaches a certain point, you find yourself staring at it, not sure what to do next.

I think this is a cool idea YannickMtl. Since this is an MMO I think it would also be great to have some sort of community participation in voting hall of famers each month or something.

Even moreso, from the MMO perspective, I would hope they roll it out at the same time as some of Toothpastes suggestions about improved Avatar abilities, interaction, and stats so that there is more motivation to visit the HoF cities. Maybe the town hall should link to the jounrnal in-game so that people can read the history and challenges with building the site. Also, I wonder if the maps tessellate in some way and the cities could all run in to one another and make a mega-city! Lol, I doubt it though.

If the community would vote for the cities, let's say 10 cities per month gets to have a spot on the HoF planet, at least we can always renew and start new cities for those 10 mayors chosen. And yes, it would make the community participate and people choosing to submit smaller towns gets a chance too. It seems that the goal right now is to create the biggest populated city, which gets boring after a while.

It would encourage creativity, participation and we can admire our own creations months after they've been on the HoF planet. On top of it, if our city is chosen amongst the 10, we can also choose where on the planet you want to put your masterpiece.

It would actually be easy to do by MC, no other changes to the gamecore needed. Just a new planet, a voting system on the website, and then MC pulls out 10 cities per month and switch them on HoF planet.

yes voting would be cool and collecting all great cities aswell however we need to be carefull that we don't get people who "buy" the first place (by making a lot of acounts)

perhaps we can do this by a system this systems would be made of mutiple rounds

1 you need at least 5 people who nominate you

2 we get rid of everything except the top 40

3 we move to the top 10

4 we pick a the 3 best cities of that week and put them on that planet

I really hope someone from MC will read this, because not only it's easy to set up, but it's truly the only way we can keep interest in the game. Do we have to continously destroy or delete our cities and start new ones? Buying multiple accounts? Nahhhh... having our finished cities exposed somewhere, and having to work hard to achieve the HoF planet is really what would keep this interesting after a while. What to do in 9 months when 8 content packs, 4 gems, 20 updates and 50 new buildings are released?? Deleting our "old" masterpieces ? Not fair.

And on top of it, it will create interactions between mayors and a much bigger traffic on their website.

    Any comments/ideas ?

All I can say is I like the idea myself. We have a few other ideas in order to give a different purpose to the online play, but we'll be discussing this one too.

Personally, I think that it's just a video game, and if we can't let go of one of our cities in order to build a new one, we're holding on way too tightly..   but that's just me.

I understand sentimentality and the desire to preserve that which we've worked hard to create, but really..

That said, I have to admit that it would be cool to see a collection of the most unique, well designed cities if the game had more variety building-wise, but I don't know how interesting it could be when you see the same 20 buildings regurgitated time and time again.

    Meh, to each their own.

Well it should be the city that looks the most realistic. Not the most population or whatever, would you rather see a city with tons of repition all over the place or a realistic looking city like all the tall buildings would be plopped once or twice. Then all the meduim density buildings should be scattered everywhere leaving room for low density buildings and farms.\

Tell me? Which one would you pick?

A fun thing to do in conjunction with the "real world terrain" maps that are coming out like Rio de Janerio, would be to have city-building contests for spots on the planet HoF (or just contests in general).  It would be cool to have a contest to see who could build the CXL city on the Rio map that most resembles real life Rio de Janerio.

Great comments and suggestions! And yes, if the cities are chosen for a place on the HoF planet, it has to be beautiful, creative and unique. People building blocks of buildings over and over without originality would not qualify. And to me, this video game is more than a videogame. I want to be creative, I want to admire my skylines and everytime I worked hard on a city, I just don't want to lose it forever. I want to submit it to the HoF planet, and hopefully it gets chosen that I can continue and create more cities. I just don't want to lose my cities. And since we can't save them on our harddrives, at least it would give a purpose of playing this game.
