Quicky Question regarding the Rail System

I'm trying to have a rail system connecting with neighboring cities that'll handle taking my industrial products in and out of town as well as passenger stations for commuting sims back and forth from my R to C zones. Will I need to have 2 tracks laid (one for freight and the other for passenger)?  Or can I just lay 1 track and have the freight and passenger stations at different locations on the line?

They can share tracks.

In General they share one track. However if you have a lot of commuters it can be beneficial to have a separate track for freight trains.
