What Exactly Does An EXE File Do In SC4?

Ok I've seen a few files on here that have EXE installers on them.  For this example I will use the PEG Lakeside Resort.  So I want to download this and use it but I am weary of using an EXE file?  

Why EXE and what does it have to install? 

Is it installing it in the Sim City folder or is it installing something on my computer?

I'm assuming it's safe cause people use them all the time and my search turned up nothing on this subject but I just wanted to ask first.  Thanks for putting up with me!

It is just putting the plugin files onto the computer. It doesn't install any software, unless you are downloading a Tool to manage/create things for the game.

The reason they are used is they are easier to use than unzipping files into the plugin folder, aslo something plugins have to load before others meaning they have to be inspecific folders, and if everyone used zipz people would put files in the wrong place.

Also like the NAM, it allows you to choose what features you want in a user friendly way.

Anything on Simtropolis, SimPeg, SC4Devotion and SimForum.de (German site) is virus free as they are very active communities, so if some idiot uploads something with a virus in it (generally someone who joined 2 minutes before loading and doesn't play SC4), they post in the comments saysing there is a virus, and the moderators are alerted and it is swiftly removed.

Ok appreciate it.  Yeah I wouldn't download from a newbie anyway.  So it's more of a convenience thing.  Cool.

I got to say I am impressed with this site!  There are things here I would have never imagined were possible!
