Playing both Standard Edition and Limited Edition

Hi,

I received my  cd key an di was successful in creating and confirming my account. Now, it might be a while until my copy of the Limited Edition arrives because of the Columbus Day in the US and the general speed of USPS. So, my question is, can I grab the standard edition copy from my friend, install it, login with my account username and play the planet offer 7 day trial and when my Limited Edition arrives, I can un-install the standard edition and play the limited edition. 

Will this work? or will it create some security issue?

You have to register the CD key to your account to play at all (solo or PO), which your friend will presumably already have done. The 7 day "trial" only comes with a legitimate and newly registered CD key - so it's more like a typical MMO "free month" thing, though only a "free week" in this case. The previous completely free trial/demo thing that required no key at all expired before launch, and there's no equivalent right now that I know of.

That said, when I created my account on PO, it still shows the free trial thing as an option, and I initially selected that. I don't think it would have actually let me play under that option (i.e. it created the account, but I don't think it would have let me in from the game client successfully). But I never actually tried it, because I got my CD key from Steam a few minutes later. When I upgraded my account with that CD key I had no problems (that I know of). So you could always try that, and see if it lets you play on the trial option before upgrading with your LE CD key.

So you are saying that the keys for Standard Edition and Limited Edition are different?

In my account page on the website it shows a 7 day trial of PO. I already have a working account. Does it matter if its a Standard Edition or a Limited Edition client I am using?

Edit : I have my own CD key. I just want to borrow his copy, login with my account and try the game for a few hours.

Ah, I didn't get that you already had your LE CD key "in hand". I don't know if there's any difference between the standard client and an LE client. I can't imagine there would be since standard clients would still need all the LE maps, etc. in order to visit other people's cities, and the blueprints and whatnot is all server/online based anyway. Plus it's just far more common/easier to distribute one client and control unlocking of stuff based solely on whether the account is setup with an LE key or a standard key.

So in short I think you'd be fine trying it out with the standard client. The worst probable outcome would be that you'd have to reinstall the LE client later to get access to everything.

Yea that I can do when I get my LE Edition cos LE edition has 5 additional maps and what not.

So for now, I can just play the game in sandbox mode or try the PO using a SE client.

I just hope my CD key doesnt get "locked" or something
