Amen to that.  It is a large, anonymous, lonely-hearts club.  I'll stick to conversations with my dog, thanks.

The end of Social Netrworking?

I don't (need/want/care about) a Facebook account. It seems like a really easy way for third parties to nab my information. *shivers* Even though most people I know that are around my age (13-ish to 15-ish) have one, it doesn't make sense to me how they can actually feel socially involved in anything other than a passing fad.

Sounds like me Wrightguy. I have one also, but use My Space and My Yearbook more often.

If you hate all the bells and whistles, glitz and glamour of My Space Spammage, try becoming a subscriber at LastFM. It's easier to build a profile with limits and more privacy, while listening to music =)

I may have said this before in a similar topic here at Simtropolis(My Space)- It's the appeal of establishing a web identity, or not if you prefer.

Facebook is awfully first person oriented, but some of these social sites can be about anything and it doesn't really have to be all about you. You can still maintain your privacy.

It's like Geocities, or GoDaddy free versions, only better features, more space, ability to advance code and people actually look at these personal website, unlike the older fare. You could spend your money building a website for music, for example =) In the end, it rarely gets looked at, unless you are someone like Pink Floyd, or Aerosmith. It's completely the opposite for places like MS, MY, CT, LFM, FB, etc.

So what if it is childish? Try to loosen up and have fun with these type sites 2.gif

You can post 100's of photos in several photo albums, post videos, write blogs, play games, socialize, publicize, load your music, design your own tables, fonts, backgrounds, avatars, links, polls, groups, forums and on and on. I think it has alot to do with the diverse features that you have to play with, that draw people into these social networks.

I don't even know why I have one anymore, but the games can be addictive.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

I am not there and won't be. The loss of privacy implications are just too great. Recently, companies have been scanning that site for "facts" about employees and clients. Phooey.

But I do have my own web site: Link.

I have one, I got it because my friends invited me through email. It's all a bit silly, people collect friends on there that they don't really know. Even I have like 200 (which is relatively low for my school) and only about 20 of them are actual friends.
