So what benifits did you get for being a beta tester (nothing no big)

But i have 1 question... With the demo and game coming soon after and the beta not working (as far as i know)

Did all of us beta testers just get screwed over or is monte cristo making a sign in thing for beta testers and get like a discount for something for the online downloadable game? Just a question since i have been pondering this for a ling while now.

Ok well i am not saying that might be a discount... but maybe exclusive material for the game? Using your beta code given to you to get the beta? I personally don't mind getting nothing because seeing the beta and all current info on the game i am not even gonna bother with getting it. So i was just thinking that beta testers shouldn't just be done with the game. Maybe since they will always be doing things to add to the game we could test those new items, before they are given to the public.

I've participated in a few betas for upcoming games or software and have never gotten anything extra, besides being able to try the stuff out before anyone else.

Yea, that's about it. Getting a sneak peak, no big deal to me. I was on the beta, barely played at all.

To help clearify what i mean i want the beta to be constantly upgraded before the main game (make them seperate) And have beta players play the beta with more advanced play then non beta testers... as MC said they will constantly be changing the game to make it a different expirence all the time. So we get all the new stuff maybe a month ahead of more or less.... And maybe even through in world costum content on the beta?

Beta testing is not a "sneak peek", nor has it ever given testers exclusive material or advanced release of content, post release of a game. Beta testing is to assist the developers in finding any potential bugs, errors and other such items in the game, so they can put their full efforts into fixing them.

Not trying to get of on the wrong foot here... but i know that beta testing is for developers to of course test their product... but since they will always be changing the game in some way (as MC claims) there is bound to be errors along the road so... They should keep the beta testers going or have something that includes the testers to test the new features of the game that they will always be adding. Like for example if they were to add a new trading system or trading product it would be a big overhaul and to make sure it is balance to all people with different resourses they would test it live with the other beta testers in a testing world. of course though testers would not get everything at a free stance since they would have to find all bugs which means that they will be playing a bugged game that is unbalanced. That would make it the hole point of having the testers. Because i find that many mmo games are or can be unbalanced to many or small amounts of the players making it inpossible to fully play the game. With that said the beta testers will be getting the new content before the other players but it will be unbalanced and bugger making it not as easy to play. So it all evens out the non testers get the content a month after the testers but it is bugged free.

Thanks and i hope MC takes a look at this.

True, but public beta testers do it for the sneak peak option most of the time...unless they are getting paid 4.gif.

Mctittles is right. That is why most people want to be in a beta. I know most say 'I want to find bugs', but half of them are lying.

I do have to say that i did want to just play the game... I didn't care for the bugs cause it was free and i knew it was gonna be awesome. But for this i want to i want to play the game but since being a beta tester play it as one... not just be chopped off from the rest of the people that run the game. I think that this would be nice for testers to further testing the game as like i MC said they will always be changing the game.

I think getting to try out the game, seeing the features, and helping a game company develop a game you will be playing is reward enough for beta testing. 4.gif

I beta test lots of stuff, like firefox.. I don't get any great perks from doing that.

Rarely do beta testers get paid to test software.

    There are exceptions, however:

    1) You actually work for the company

    2) You are part of a small, dedicated group that the company knows pretty well, not one of thousands of "beta testers" worldwide.

    3) You paid for the beta and deserve some compensation.

Swat-medic : Seeing the features and stuff is all fun and stuff and just playing the game is also fun especially before everybody else... but i think they should keep the beta testers to help forward or steer the game in the right direction.

LivingInThrPast please clarify what you mean?

I think what he means is some people are in betas to get paid. And, if they don't get paid, they don't want to be in.

But, if it's a good game, who cares if your paid?

Yeah, you get paid if you work within the company and its your job to beta test. The second occurrence is pretty rare, but it can happen. The third occurrence...it's like Mac OS X Public Beta. The testers got a rebate, but the beta cost money to buy.

For the satisfaction of a curious mind, being in the beta saved a lot of people some money. It also bought a lot of people some time as not only did they uninstall a free beta game/test, but also uninstalled the interest of this game out of their minds giving them more free space to concentrate on SC4 or other valuable things in life.

I think MC's silence over the years keeps people curious while they look at nice screenshots. So people joining the beta out of pure curiosity is only natural. More info should've been given throughout the years. And even now there are still mysteries with no answers or interaction from MC to squash any speculation. So yeah, many joined out of pure "what is this?" because indepth info on this game from the devs is scarce. And they want you to pay a monthly fee for this kind of service.

It sounds like you just want to be treated as a god and not have to play with the 'scum' (people that didn't get into the beta)

Do you just want people to look up to you?

This is pointless. Most people have quit from the beta. I mean, from themselves. Not being forced or something.

"The only good thing about CXL is its deinstall program: it runs well, quickly and efficiently." -- can't remember who said that but it gives a clear view of what to expect.
