CAM for mac

Hi just wondering if anyone uses the Colossus Addon Mod? I'm a new player (I played before NAM existed and got frustrated with the failure of transport to make ubermetropolises) having just started again after finding this community with delight, resparking my interest.

I have considered installing the CAM and was wondering if it is worth it? I have found the files needed without difficulty but also wondered if downloading additional buildings is needed, as the CAM building packs I have found all depend on other buildings which in turn depend on other prop and texure packs, and more often than not one thing or more would be an .exe

What I am worried of is installing something or things with incomplete textures or props. I would like to know if there is just one or two packs i can download that would cover everything, or if it just too much work with holes in to bother 15.gif

Many thanks in advance for your help, even if it is just a point to a "player startup" thread or something like that. There is a great deal of support here, evidently, though I assure you this deep forum can be a bit of a daunting labyrinth at first!

Dumbledore - welcome to ST

Probably better if you ask this at SC4D as the CAM is based there, most of the support files are also on the LEX at the same site

There are a few started packs that will get you going, after that it's up to you what else you want to add - there are probably 100's of CAM files, plus all the needed dependency & mega packs.

Not sure about mac files - hopefully someone else can advise you

Dave

Thanks for the quick reply both of you. I'm glad to know that the mod is useful. Since posting I found both a list of CAM lots and their dependencies, so will start downloading later with filejuicer by my side. I have already installed the mac version with your help.

ps I also meant to ask, and I know I should ask in another new thread, are there any other really outstanding mods that might be considered almost vital? I already use NAM and the cycledogg's columbus terrain mod (modified for a lower snowline) and am very very satisfied with both (as a sidenote when installing CAM I removed the NAM parts of it, don't worry).

    Very good to know, thanks.

What do you mean by a terrain mod? I literally just read about some terrain edit program that allows you to edit terrain over a whole region rather than by each city tile. Is that what you mean, or do you mean something like the columbus terrain mod I have which gives new trees and terrain texture. I was thinking of getting new beach and rock textures but am not sure what would work.

Likewise what do you mean by a watermod?

I'm currently looking datpacker up, just wondering if you know offhand whether it is safe to use on big things like CAM or not, if not what should it be used on?

    Dumbledore,

It depends what you are looking for?

If you've got NAM, did you also get RHW, SAM, HSPR and all the other addons for it

What about the BTM mod for monorail?

There is so much content out there it really depends on your playing style & where you are from - I tend to go for UK based mods, euro road mods etc to make things more realistic to where I live.

Have a play around and build your plugins as you go - I have nearly 4GB of stuff, probably don't use even 1/2 of it regularly though

Don't forget RTMT for your transit needs

I used the Datpacker on everything in my plugins folder except NAM (but I kept a copy on a USB stick). Datpacking speeds up gameplay, and speeds up loading times.

The columbus terrain mod is very realistic, and so is the low snow mod that can go with it. But I'd recommend also getting rock textures.

As far as I can tell, Datpacker is a Windows only program, so not much use to the folk here, unless you know of a port.

I love CAM, but Pegasus' ports and rewards seem to be causing some issues since I installed CAM. Anyone else experienced this? Any other incompatibilities I should know about?

CAM is definetly worth it, just make sure you download the Mac version or it won't work obviously.

This question would be best addressed if you were to post this over on SC4D because thats where most of the support for the CAM is like,d_j_p1 said. I'd get started by downloading all of the building packs and standalone buildings off of the LEX that are CAMpatible, just make sure you download all of the dependicies or you'll end up with brown boxes which can be really annoying when you start seeing all of the brown boxes start popping up all over your cities.

To address your one question about a Terrain Mod that would be like cycledogs Columbus Terrain Mod, that you said you already had. A water mod is basically the same them it just effects the water's texture and changes it to a much more realistic texture.

There are a ton of good mods out there that I can't think of right now. But you can go on to the STEX and look in the mods section and find one that eventually fits with whatever you are looking for. But don't download everything because some of the mods are conflicting, some transport mods may make your game crash if you already have the NAM installed so make sure. You may choose to use the radical ordinance mod which will boost your demands sky high but may take the fun out of the game.

DAT packer is a Windows only program,

I saw a link on SC4Devotion, someone probably already posted a link above. SC4D has many more "Mac Compatible" mods such as euro street mod and sidewalk parking mod.
