Yea but most yankees fans aren't used to waiting ten years for championships since the first year they rooted for the yankees was 96'. [Or whatever world series occured during there youth]

Duke, the major flaw in your argument is that the Red Sox, Mets, and other large payroll teams all are within range of eachother, and then the yankees are extremely higher. In 2004, the yankees had a whopping 182 million dollar payroll. Second place was the red sox at nearly 60 million less, or the cost to field the milwaukee brewers 04' payroll twice. So yea, the Yankees are head and shoulders above the rest in terms of spending.

Its also worth pointing out that the Yankees can go out every single offseason and add massive contracts to their payroll. Most teams, even the red sox to some extent, have to plan out long term sizable deals so that they don't add up. Some teams can barely handle one large contract. Yet year in year out, the yankees sign 2-3 large contracts. This offseason, the yankees gave out 3 contracts that for this year cost more than the entire Pittsburg Pirates opening day roster.

And that list of world series teams means nothing. Notice the frequency of each small market team compared to big market teams? The yankees, red sox, and angels are in the race every year. It takes the rays, rockies, and marlins nearly a decade to build a world series team because they don't have the resources to maintain superstars and sign big free agents.

The only solution really is a system similar to the MLS, where there is a set salary cap [80-90 million?] and then clubs are allowed one contract that is exempt from the cap. That way the yankees, sox, and friends can still be greedy pigs while the small market teams aren't hurt.

And Cy Young is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of career wins, but that doesn't mean Walter Johnson wasn't also a damn good pitcher.

A salary cap would probably already exist if the players' union would allow it. Meanwhile, you can't hate the Yankees for doing something they're perfectly allowed to do.

(well, you can, you're a Red Sox fan. 2.gif But those who are not...)

Any team that wins as much as the yankees have is going to be wealthy, don't just blame the yankees think of all the money the steinbrenner has poured into the team.
