Power Lines

Hi, new here. >3.gif>

A friend sold me his old Sim City 4 game and a week later… I ordered my own Sim City Box. I had to get the Deluxe edition. I’m hooked. >3.gif>

I’ve read most of the tutorials here and have started my city. I have yet to download or install any addons to my game since I want to get the feel of it before I even decide what to add. So far, I have one issue. >3.gif>

Power lines. Hate them. >3.gif>

I am following the “making money the easy way” tutorial by soldyne (which is great by the way! Thanks soldyne!) found here: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=146&threadid=78505&enterthread=y>3.gif>

I have created “Suburbia” and “Powerton” and have my neighbor deals going just fine. The problem I’m having is with expanding power throughout Suburbia. It seemed that the first neighborhood was powered just fine. But how do I distribute that power elsewhere without having to put more lines throughout Suburbia? I’m sure there are options for other power lines that I can download but I want to stay away from downloads for a while. >3.gif>

For now, it seems that every time I create a new neighborhood I need to expand the power lines to it or they won’t get power. My funding is fine, and Powerton is providing enough power for both. >3.gif>

Also, I noticed that I can develop parks or whatever where a power tower is and… it moves or sometimes it disappears. Does it go underground? Is that a way I can get rid of all these lines, just develop some more? It just doesn’t look realistic to have such big power towers all over the place but I suppose if that’s the way it works then I should look at downloading some lighter smaller power lines? I mean those big red power towers look ok along main avenues or highways but they don’t belong anywhere near streets and neighborhoods. >3.gif>

Any help or comments are appreciated, >3.gif>

Thanks!>3.gif>

Doesn't look realistic? You should live where I live, there are dozens if power lines, hundreds of pylons, including what I understand are (or were) the two tallest in the world, taking the National Grid accross the river Thames (between Swanscombe and Thurrock). Doesn't matter which direction you look you can see power lines.

As for your question you need power lines to connect areas unless you develope them close to each other(4 tiles). Alternatively you could go the expensive way and use lots of wind turbines.

There are alternatives, on the STEX, to the [unattractive] default red and white towers.  Pegasus has a mod the repaints them to all grey, he also has created "power boosters" that you place every 4 tiles.  You can also use tree lots to do the same thing, there are several selections on the STEX.
