I want to know the most efficient way to have monorails through your city without having them rip through future locations for skyscrapers etc.  And I'm planning out my monorail system ahead of time this time, just an FYI.

But hmm, wait, would it be a good idea to have monorails from the start?

So anyway.  Do I place monorail rails next to the roads and just have like one line through each district?  (Residential, Commercial, Hi-Tech) And then just have bus stops/parking garage next to them?

I have NAM...

Pictures would be useful to see how your rails are layed out,

And plz don't tell me monorails suck because they don't.

P.S. Monorail cats are welcome.

Easy, reserve the land at the start. Decide where your residential areas will be, decide where your business and industrial districts will be, then figure out where the monorail needs to go. Fill that space with god mode trees so you know it is reserved. Until your city is ready for the monorail you can use it for parks and trees to make your city nicer (in fact you can reseve enough space to put parks around your monorail to make it really pretty).

No, they will make the land value too high at the start which will make it more difficult for sims to settle the area and also you won't be able to get enough taxes to cover their cost. Wait until you have plenty of wealthy sims and a strong business district.

You will need roads touching each station so the sims can transfer from and to other modes of transport. I suggest putting at least a bus stop near each one. You don't want to be putting monorail stations at the same spacing you would put bus stops, as this would be too close and create overloading and slow commute times. Have only a few monorail stations in each district (R,C,I) and use the busses to get your sims from their homes and work places to the monorail. Busses are more flexible for that kind of thing.

Make a boulevard of 2 roads (one way or 2 way, you choice) and then put the monorail between the roads. It allows access to both sides and is reasonably fast. For added efficiency, use tram on road, and avenue for even more transportation. Add z1's RTMT and you've got a super transportation network!

If you have an existing subway or bus network, then you should use this station made by brenda_xne to combine the subway/bus network with your new monorail network.

It really helped me boost ridership for my monorail. I hope it will help you. 4.gif
