8th of May 1959 the first Mini's by Austin/Morris rolled of the production line. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis the car a 4 seater was just a bit longer than most cars were wide. It was considered an Icon of design was extreamly popular amongst the in-crowd. It was made in saloon, estate (called the Countryman (station wagon)), van and pick-up versions. The Mini-moke (a jeep-like looking version) was a later version. It had a front mounted transverse engine and front wheel drive. The dashboard consisted of of shelf with an over-large, centre mounted speedo. The doors were opened by pulling on a rope in the door frame. The early ones had sliding windows, and a start button under the driver seat. My first car was a Mini Countryman. In the early seventies the front was redesigned as the Clubman.

Depends on a) the version, and b) how you drive it. But remember it was designed in the 50's and of course technology has moved on a lot since then.
