Hello,

I am relatively new to SimCity, but I have created 3 cities using the "Making Money The Easy Way" tutorial (https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=146&threadid=78505&enterthread=y).  When my population in the "Suburban" city begins to hit 20,000-25,000 residents, my demand for ID and IM sharply falls.  There is education in place, but even with education, the demand for IHT is very low.  Many of the residents' homes get the red briefcase icon above them and then the population begins to drop.  I can zone for new residential areas, and they will fill up, but after a little while they too get the red briefcase icon and their homes are abandoned.

In the "Industrial" city I try to zone for ID/IM until the demand is around 0, but at approximately 20-25,000 people in the "Suburban" city, the demand for ID/IM suddenly falls very quickly.

I hope I have given enough information.  Can anybody provide any insight as to why my city growth becomes stagnate at this point?

Thank you in advance!!

Jon

adequate health care,... police... all different education systems and parks can all help... make sure they have good funding

and it sounds like you have some transportation issues... one of the hardest parts of regional play is getting everyone to work... too long a drive and they get the zot

your sims should invest in some of the many forms of transportation to get out of the cities... id start with a rail going to the industrial city with bus stops on corners and a few train stops along its route...

then do the same in your industrial

then when you can afford it... a highway system throughout your region

then maybe an elevated rail to get more sims to their jobs...

build more and more bus stops...

then subways... do an underground el rail connection to connect the el rail already built

also build out before you build up... those high rise structures can create negative demand if the demand is low to start with

*one other tip... build about 6 blocks of residential in your industral city and give them no education... this will bump the demand for r$$$ in your main city and with all the forms of transportation you should see your pop skyrocket

our world is a simcity

Yeah it sounds like your transit network is breaking down under heavy population growth. What happens in that case is that the roads (and/or rail) becomes so congested that sims cant make it in to work so they lose their jobs. The sims or the jobs get tired of waiting for improvements to be made and move out, relieving the pressure on the transit network and raising desirability causing sims to move back in and subsequently overburden the transit network again and repeating the cycle. If this is what is happening to you then all you need to do is expand/improve your transit system. Replace roads with avenues, provide mass transit options such as bus and rail as suggested above. Use the traffic data view and transportation query tool to locate and clear up traffic bottlenecks and other congestion points.

Research the omnibus for information about encouraging R$$$ development and building transit networks. There's a lot of information there that might directly address your troubles.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the help guys. I did an experiment last night:

I built up another city, only this time building much slower AND adding bus stops to each neighbor hood that I built, as well as each place that I expanded industry zoning in the neighbor city. What I found was that the sims did not complain about lack of jobs or commute times AT ALL until the population reached ~23,000 people. At that point almost all of the homes began complaining about commute times at the same time (and subsequently the homes became abandoned and the population dropped to ~20,000). The point of that story is that I think you two are right about the lack of transportation. I am going to build up another city tonight and try to incorporate some other forms of public transportation. If I am successful, I will post back here. Thank you again for the help, I really appreciate it.
