Recently i have been experiencing problems with commute time and sims have been abandoning their homes because of it. the weird thing is that they have available places to work right next to where their houses are. any help would be great.

Gonna need some more info from you buddy, how many neighbours do you have and what size is the city in terms of tile size [small/med/large]

A lot of the time the issue is neighbours are working there and those houses should commute to your neighbours but they will have little to no jobs available.

Either that or the nearest available jobs are too far away, have you got the NAM ? that reduces commute times by around 10x

this city is neighbored by one city. both are large city titles. yes i have the nam. the neighboring city has 593,662. of that population, 78,785 commute to the town for jobs. there is only 19,513 jobs available in this town. these numbers cause the available jobs for Sims to be at -48,716. Also the town has a population of 9,059.

Haha you have the same problem I do, My current region is large cities only and because its fewer larger cities... There are less connections to neighbours and further to travel to get to multiple cities for work [i have NAM installed]

Try starting in a corner of one city, and build 3 other cities around it all in the closest corner to that city, then slowly move out like a cross shape linking more and more. Has been working for me although top and bottom corners at the end of the region is very... Difficult D:

I am having the same problem. What IS it with commute time and this game? Houses always abandon in my cities and it stops me developing them. I have tried everything; bus stops on every corner, subway networks, avenues and highways etc.

I have even experimented with road networks - like laying them out in a grid of avenues which disperse into smaller roads and streets, as well as both reducing and increasing the amount of crossroads traffic has to go through. I have also tried a winding road pattern found in some European cities, but still the amount of 'abandoned due to commute time' buildings is astronomical! And also, no matter where you put industrial and commercial zones, sims still won't travel to them! I have tried putting jobs in the same square as the residents, and over the road, with several transport links such as buses. I have tried isolating each individual zone, so only the same type of zone is found in that particular area. But the no job sign still appears! And the strange thing is is that it's almost certainly always the wealthy sims that abandon, even though the jobs in the city are mostly high-tech and Co$$$ commercial!

I've tried building a city primarily of low-density zones (as i thought the problem was caused by too much traffic on the roads)but by the time the population reaches 30,000 almost EVERY wealthy house has a no job sign above it. Then all the buildings either distress or go black which makes the city look awful.

I have also tried altering the amount of cities joined to it, and the education and the amount of jobs found in those cities. But no matter what it never makes a difference. Education and health in the city are all really good, as is the road traffic. Crime, air pollution and fire-risk are low. Is it all just to do with the 'bug' found in the came? If not, how are we supposed to overcome this ridiculous problem?

Yor poblem is probably that you don't have enough jobs , in other words, your unemployment is high.

sc4 uses the work zot to say that the sims either don't have a job , or that it takes too long to get to work.(it is more rare than you think!)

if you know that your transportation system well , you need to focus on getting more jobs.

I don't know , but it is probably your problem.

    Hope this helps.
