CTD Frustration

I picked up my game of the internet for £17.99, because my origonal game of sim city 4 kept CTD which i got very annoyed about. So it crashs every 10 minutes on a small city. on my large map i've got 159k people liveing. no plugins what so ever yet every 4-5 seconds after being on that city it CTD. im considering sending the game back if i dont get help with it or EA release a CTD Patch which is urgent for many people!

What are your system specs?
Did you download the update?
Do you have any plugins that maybe conflicting?
Is your video card on hardware or software rendering?
