Persistent Traffic?

Will MC make that possible?

As CPU intensive as it may get it could be included as an option from which you could just opt-out in case it would impact too much the main gameplay. Surely it would add a lot to realism.

Would this traffic obey traffic rules?

As seams to be the case to a certain level in SC4:RH. Traffic lights at least.

The 1st Person view seams to be there.

I would love to see this in CXL.

What do you think?

Well, if the traffic was persistant, would it like, go to a driveway and just stay there or just drive around until the end of time? Cars would have to start somewhere, and if it never ends, you might get clogged roads. I don't think it will be easy, but it might be possible

I would probably guess they would just use the fade in/fade out method of car placement, and if not, put in a certain amount of cars on the road and have them drive around endlessly, and slightly increase the number of cars on the roads as the size of the city grows.

Cars could and should fade in at their origin, drive to the destination and fade out there.  It would aldo be good to see traffic that follows traffic rules, as the current SC4 traffic doesn't seem to be able to do.

I would also like to see roads that should be congested look congested, and  ones that shouldn't look normal.  I often have at least 10 cars at any given moment on a suburban cul-de-sac with only about 10 houses, and at the same time a highway that should have very heavy congestion be free-flowing.

I am ok with the fade in fade out thing (one does have to consider the graphics drain...) as long as it is a bit more realistic.

I have always found it slightly irritating that quiet roads with one or two houses seem to have a constant flow of traffic and highways are virtually empty.

I would be just fine with fade out / fade in from the outside of screen...

The engine would remember only static cars (accordingly to trafic levels) and graphically move them when you look at them - when they move out of your focus (or out of a certain radius around you), they would fade out and new cars would fade in from the outside of the screen to replace them.

it would be good if the cars were form different corners of the world, like say if you were building a city in America, they would be amercian!

That would be nice, perhaps MC can tie the cars generated to the type of buildings present.

I like this idea.  As long as they properly reflect traffic volumes and obey traffic laws!  In the end it would be nice if you could follow a car from start point to end point of its destination too.

I would like to slow down the fade-in fade-out method quite a bit , but if thats done , I think it would be a better option.

for example , there should be a way to define the area that cars may fade out , so it doesn't look so bad on the highways.

they should also place less traffic on streets , so they are not clogged with 20 houses on the street , while highways are in the red (30,000+ commuters!) but looks more like it has 5,000.

i would probably make fade-in fade out times very high(only once or so a minute.) and only do so if its necessary.

and , last of all , cars should follow traffic rules.

in other words , in my opinion , there should be a combination of the two systems.

thats what I would like to see

aprilboy: thats seems quite smart to me , that would also be nice.

can anyone agree with me?

Agreed ... more traffic should mean more cars, not vice-versa.

We may need a traffic generator that generates x number of vehicles in each given range of volume on that road, avenue, highway, rail line, etc.
