City deleted itself...?

Ok, so I haven't played SimCity in a few months, but in the interim I had downloaded a few bats and such. Anyway, I start up the game today and go into a region I had built up and ALL my cities are gone. ??? What the hell happened to them? Did I somehow erase them?

What do you mean gone? Do they show up as flat terrain? Did you try entering one just to check?

You could also try looking in it's region folder (Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\[name of region]). If the only files in there are named such as "City - New City" and so forth, the cities have indeed, somehow ,disappeared.

Yea, they've reverted back to the original region terrain, and in the region folder they're all named as you said: "City - New City." I just don't know why that would have happened. Nothing has happened to my computer. It makes me not even want to start over knowing that at any point the cities might just decide to disappear.

That's very strange how they just went *poof* into thin air like that.

All I can suggest is that you do regular backups.

I also just recently lost a city. Just 1 from one of my regions. I did a few silly things which could have caused this to happen.

1) I gave two other cities nearby the same name as each other

2) I had renamed the city I have just lost and gave it the same name I had for my other 2 cities using the cheat

I can't remember the exact orxer of events.

Essentially I should have ended up with 3 cities with the same name (I didn't think it could cause a conflict)

The other 2 cities have retained their names, however they are only terrain with no buildings, where as the city I have lost is now a blank tile with a flat terrain.

In the regions folder one of the cities with the same name has the number 2 after it. I would have thought this should have happened with the 3rd city, but it's no where to be found.

It might have had something to do with renaming them.

In my experience SC4 has tended to do strange things when there a lots of tiles with the same name (although the region's folder the cities become named City - Blahtown (1), City - Blahtown (2), etc.). Although I doubt that was the cause of you losing a city.

What do I do if in region view the city reverts to blank original terrain, but the city is still alive within the tile? I just have two ugly eyesores as city tiles in the middle of my region now!!!!

That sometimes happens to me if I save when running any other applications like IE or something. Try start up SC4 without running any other programs, enter one of your affected cities and try saving. That usually works for me.... Good luck!
