SC4 Deluxe unable to start

About a month ago, whenever I click on SC4, it doesn't start up. I had to go to task manager, shut off the SC4 (which would say Gmax error or something), and then restart the SC4.

Now, I click on the SC4, the splash screen screen shows up, and then it disappear. I went to task manager, but SC4 isn't in the list. I then went to the EA trouble shooter and it says DirectX is missing.

I was thinking,"WTH?!?!". I then launch the DirectX system check, and it says nothing is wrong. I then launch a system check on the Direct3D and  then DirectDraw, 3 times. Here are the results:

Direct3D: Test failed at step 37 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x88760868(error code)

DirectDraw: Failure at step 9 (Creating primary surface): HRESULT = 0x887600e1 (error code)

Failure at step 37 (SetCooperativeLevel to Fullscreen): HRESULT = 0x88760245 (error code)

------------------------------------------------------

My laptop's info:

OS: Window XP Home edition SP3

RAM: 3 GB

CPU: Intel Core Duo 2, 2 GHz per core.

DirectX version: 9.0 (4.09.0000.0904)

Gmax error? You mean LOC Variables? I really have no idea what's going on. I think you may be having issues because of that dual core. You can set the affinity to one CPU in the task manager, or I know of a program that can "repackage" the .exe to improve performance and compatiability.

I have already tried setting the affinity to one CPU. The Gmax error showed up a month ago.

Now, SC4 no longer shows up in the task manager when I hit run on SC4. I think the DirectX on my laptop is corrupted.
