This is my region, based on the Super Gauntlet Island map by Aronian. It is a huge map a good balance of only medium and large terrains. I also convinced one of my best friends to abandon his region and use the same one as I am, except he is starting in almost the complete opposite corner, so occasionally I might show some pictures of what he is up to. Saving and exiting to the region takes an extra 2 minutes on my computer because it takes so long to reload the region.

Before I go on, I must warn you that I do not usually construct my thoughts in an understandable manner, so you will often be left confused by my lack of organization and sentences that go on for way too long. Also I am a consistently inconsistent person (meaning that I am almost always inconsistent).

As of right now, I have not learned to post pictures yet but I will learn so that this cj will actually have a purpose. This is my first cj and I have not developed or decided on a specific style. At the very least I may make you feel good about your citybuilding abilities, or maybe you will feel smarter than me.

I am thinking I will have one post for each city, and edit each post if and when I get a new picture from it. There will probably not be any storyline or history for this region, just pictures and miscellaneous comments. Currently, my region has many inconsistencies, and it is easy to tell where the city borders are, since many of my cities are residential and commercial skyscrapers, and then right next to it there would be an industrial only city with very little transition.

The mods I use are the transitmod, the darker water, snow, and possibly a few others and thanks to the creators of these mods. I use a number of lots, but most are civic buildings and parks, with very few rci buildings.

I hope to post my first pictures tomorrow and along with that will probably be a number of other things I have forgotten to say or ideas I have thought of while I am being bored at school(I am a sophomore in high school so you should go easy on all I do so as not to break my tender self image). If you want to criticize me and try to boss me around, it would be much appreciated if you took that somewhere else.

Note: If you disagree with anything I have said or done, please know that I probably agree with you in disagreeing with me because I have said or done something irrelevant or thoughtless.

well, I am going to try to post a picture of part of the region tonight....it will help me learn better.  If the picture shows up ya'll ( i live in Texas) should know that it is outdated

well.....I need to be getting to bed so if it did not work then all you anxious fans of the RSENW(republic of southeast nowhere) will just have to wait for a bit.

edit: I reckon that it has not worked but I know all you anxious fans are just itching to get your hands on it so I will make my last attempt of the night which is to attach the picture.  If this does not work I might just have to give up these newfangled computers and buy myself a ranch.

Good morning everyone, I think I have discovered how to get pictures to work, and if it is working, you have just seen a picture of a highway interchange I made in the city of Clarp.
    /idealbb/files/hiway1.jpg

This picture here is of the highway I made in Cosine.

When I started this region I did not have in mind to make  a city journal of it so I have not taken very many pictures.  Now I have a city journal so I will be taking more up to date pictures.  I am off to school now so ya'll take care.

    /idealbb/files/southeast
This is the region as of January 11.  Cosine and Schick will be mostly low and medium density I think, but right now they are full of commercial services that earn money and help demand.
On the far left is A_Tab, and the name is kind of random but basically it is a dirty and manufacturing industry city on a large terrain.  In the center is an area of wetlands that I think will stay like that.  A_Tab also has a huge area full of commercial services and it has really helped my demand to just let it build...over 100,000 low and medium wealth cs jobs.

Clarp is probably my best city so far but I can no longer play it because it is so big (900,000 people).  It is a great city and someday I will go and get some more pictures from it to show you.  One of the few major problems it had was that it hd a lack of building variety, for example I would zone a new area, and it would develop with one type of building being repeated over and over.  Impeccable Tenants, Wallace Manor, and Tri Tip Towers are the dominant repetitive residential buildings.  In commercial, I got at ton of Talin Tower Suites (these are the only ones that bothered me), and a few other buildings came in waves, like one time when i got 6 Fisks in 2 years.

Crump is a mainly residential city with around 400,000 people.  On a part of the region you can't see, I started another city with the same name without realizing what I had done (I will have to go back and fix this).

Blarg is mainly residential and commercial, Smat is almost completely commercial only, and Harveys Bend is residential with some hi tech.

The rest of the cities are not worth saying much about.  Also, at some point I will start to make posts for specific cities but I wanted to get everyone caught up on where my region was before I develop it any more.

Right now i am working on a city named Camp.  It is on a large terrain and is houston tileset only (I got tired of too many European buildings even when all tilesets were on).  It will be mostly light residential with some medium, and mostly medium density commercial with maybe a few skyscrapers...they might be out of place but I will not let myself get rid of them.  Here are a few pictures of what is going on in Camp.
This is a Waco Co I got before I had zoned any residential and there was just some commercial zones chilling there to earn a bit of money.  This is my first Waco Co so I had to keep it, even if  it is in the middle of where my neighborhoods are.
    /idealbb/files/Camp
Here are some 1x1 houses, they are looking a bit bland so maybe I will do something to fix that, or else I will keep it to make the rest of my city look better.

    /idealbb/files/Camp

Here are some rich people who live by the water.

    /idealbb/files/Camphttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/Camp%20rich%20coastal%20people.jpg border=0>

This is a random idea that I got. It is called the road to nowhere and it is a one way road.  It goes through about 4 cities in my region, and is headed towards the corner city in which it will finally reach its destination of nowhere, and i have yet to decide what will happen there./idealbb/files/Camp

I have to go to school now but if you have any questions or anything to say (since I have been talking only to myself on this post for days now), you can say something.

Quite. Great city layout and planning! Plus, did you do that highway intersection just because you could? Looking at it, I don't think it is any more efficient than a traditional cloverleaf junction. How about a data view if these highways are used?

If you are talking about the highway intersection in Clarp with the bridges, that is out of necessity because the highways were too close together for the 2 T intersections it would normally have.

The other highway picture (from Cosine) is mostly just for show, but if you notice, all the highways are a little bit off center and I did not plan for that, it is just how they came in from the connections to the other cities.  I could have straightened them out before they met, but why do that when you can have something new, and actually somewhat useful.  Also I do not think anyone uses it yet because I have not really built that city yet and probably will not for a while since I have so many directions in which I can build.

Camp is coming along nicely  and i will get a region pic ready soon so you can know where it is and also see some more of the Road to Nowhere.

Here is the lefternmost area of the Southeast Republic of Nowhere.  You can see the Road to Nowhere, which if you do not know is a one way road that goes somewhere, but nobody is really sure where, because there is not a road back, although pedestrians can travel the other direction on a one way.(I recently discovered this and it led to a travel stop and a few houses along the road to nowhere)  Nobody has come back so it is either too good to come back or too bad to make it back...who knows.....?

Here is the road to nowhere as it makes its pointless way through the city of Hatchet./idealbb/files/Hatchet
Here is a closeup of one of the sights along the way through Hatchet:

    /idealbb/files/Hatche

Now, here is what has been going on at Camp at this very slow rate:/idealbb/files/Camp

    And some closer views:/idealbb/files/Camp

I just couldnt take the lack of skyscrapers so i allowed fo some wallace manors.  Soon after this area was developed, the lawn care business skyrocketed, but lawn care accidents also increased as gravity got the best of some mowers on the steeper lawns.

Here is what happens when you try (and dont quite succeed) to get creative and beat the system with a better interchange:<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/camp%20useless%20interchange.jpg>

Look for pictures of some other cities soon.

Now I will go back and show you some pictures of the cities that are already all built up.
Harveys Bend is a mostly residential city (population about 300,000) with some industrial, and a bit of commercial: /idealbb/files/Harvey's
This is the first Walkup Tower I have ever gotten and it just randomly popped up when I came back into the city to take pictures.
    /idealbb/files/Harvey's

Here is my first Knight building, also in Harveys Bend. /idealbb/files/Harvey'shttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/Harvey's%20Bend%20leonid%20and%20others.jpg border=0>

Here is some of the denser part of the city, with a Leonid Apartments (they are rare for me) and two  Trottier Tradings that account for about half of my commercial population.

I thought I had taken a picture of the whole city but I guess not, so I will do that another time.

Here is a picture of the city of Russell, which is all hi tech industry for Harvey's Bend and Clarp.  Now would be a good time to say that I use the industry quadruplifier, so there are about 115,000 jobs here.

Ok, I have a suspicion that something is wrong because I put in the picture of Russell, and instead of coming down here in the post, it  appeared like at the very top, above the Simtropolis banner and community chest.

It is time for me to go to school, but it will be the weekend when I get back so I will actually be able to get some real work on my cities done and then show ya'll.

The weekend is here, and it is going to be a 4 day weekend for me so hopefully I can find some time in there to get some real work done on the Republic of Southeast Nowhere.
Until then, I would like to share some pictures of my largest city, Clarp.  I will probably never play it again because it took nearly 30 minutes to save with its million people.  The good news is that when I played Clarp last night, I got a good amount of pictures, and also figured out how to fix my problem of how I almost never get 4x4 buildings.  Enough talking and here are some pictures:

Here are 3 shots that will show you Clarp in its entirety /idealbb/files/Clarphttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/Clarp%20overall%201.jpg border=0>
    /idealbb/files/Clarp
    /idealbb/files/Clarp

Now for some closeups of buildings that I do not get very often or things that might look cool.
    /idealbb/files/clarphttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/clarp%20calvins%20happy%20place%20plaza.jpg border=0>

/idealbb/files/Clarp ok, well that one is kind of small, but it is still something I do not often get.

/idealbb/files/clarphttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/clarp%20idyllic%20view%20condominiums.jpg width=480 border=0> This is Idyllic View Condominiums, and this is the first one I ever got, now I have 2.

/idealbb/files/clarpHere is my first, and so far my only, Lind entertainment.

/idealbb/files/ClarpThe Primavera, I have only gotten this one other time in a city of 50,000 on a small terrain...kind of odd.

    /idealbb/files/Clarp

Here is one of my last areas to develop, and this was the time I decided to zone 4x4 lots, by using the control key....If only I had discovered this earlier.

That will do it for pictures now, hope you have enjoyed.  If there are any smart people out there, I was wondering if you would like to tell me how to take pictures in the game, like pictures of my graphs, or during u-drive it and stuff like that.

Very nice city, there is only one thing i would have done different about your city of Clarp.  I would have had more ferries and less bridges.  Other than that, magnificient work.

Looking back at Clarp, I can really see your reasoning, and if it wasnt a 30 minute ordeal just to load and save it, I would probably remove some of the less usefull bridges.  Some of the bridges aren't even used and the rest are full of busses.

Today I woke up and got that feeling, you know, the one where you just don't want to work on the city of Camp, but you want to work on other things.  So I did just that- worked on 3 cities (Tarp, Schick, and Cosine).  Also I went back to some the great cities of yesteryear (Blarg, Smat, and Crump), and took some pictures.

Blarg was my first very successful big city, with about 600,000 people.  It is one of those cities that you design to be a peice of crap, but a very dense piece of crap.  Often when I do this, random good things come out of it, and that is the case with Blarg.  Half of the population is medium wealth, and the other half is split pretty evenly between low and high wealth.  Education is around 190, health is around 90.  I designed Blarg not really caring about aesthetics or realisticity(but that has never been one of my focal points), and towards the end it was just a mash of big buildings.  The name came from me just saying the word a lot and enjoying it.  If you have actually read all of this, congratulations and here are the pictures, if you didnt read, you can still look at the pictures:  /idealbb/files/Blarg
    /idealbb/files/Blarg

Lesson: high wealth buildings gone low wealth hold more people

    /idealbb/files/Blarg

Here is a good reason to go back into the cities that you may think you are already done with.  This is Twin Peak Towers and it is my first one ever.

Crump is a word I said a few months ago on a day when I was really tired.  Naturally a word such as this would end up as a city in the Republic of Southeast Nowhere.  Crump was originally supposed to be all residential, which I held to for the most part, but it was also supposed to be all medium or low density, but I got population hungry and came up with this: /idealbb/files/Crump

    /idealbb/files/Crump

this is where i decided there should be a bit of industry

    /idealbb/files/Crumphttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/Crump%20little%20pink%20thing.jpg border=0>

Here is a closeup, showing a little pink building.

    /idealbb/files/crump

Sometimes my game gets lazy and only builds one type of building or tileset, even when they are all on.

    /idealbb/files/crump

Well, I just liked how that area looked.

Smat will be coming up shortly, along with cities I have made more recently

Well, I got caught up in the weekend, and I went to my friend brandons house and looked at his region (he has the same region as me, but he started building in a different place).  I also got him registered here as like Santanbo or some crazy word I made up then.  Soon I will teach him how to post and you can see his region too maybe.

Now for what you all really care about:  the city of Smat.  Smat is a medium terrain with a river running through the middle, and it is almost entirely commercial.  There is not much more I can think to say about it, except that I only got so much demand in it because I had almost no commercial in Blarg or Crump, which are its neighbor cities.  Here is why I like Smat so much (even if it is an uncreative boring name):

    /idealbb/files/Smat

Hurt Enterpise Headquarters, the biggest building I have gotten so far. (you can make fun of me for that if you have gotten bigger buildings).

    /idealbb/files/Smat

    /idealbb/files/Smat

    /idealbb/files/Smat

    /idealbb/files/Smat

    /idealbb/files/Smat

    /idealbb/files/Smat

On a side note, there is a subway in this city with 65,000 people on it, and an avenue at one time held 40,000 busses.  Where are these people  going you might ask.....They are going to work in A_Tab, my industrial/power/trash/stuff i dont like city.

That is it for Smat, I hope you have enjoyed it and hope you enjoy the upcoming pictures of more recent cities.

Here is a picture of the region, that is not very recent, and it will show you where I have been working:

    /idealbb/files/what

Please excuse the lack of proffessionalness and think to yourself wow this boy is learning new things like how to draw diagrams.

And I will apologize because I have not really taken many pictures in any of the cities except Cosine and Tarp.  So, now you can see what i do have.  Here is Cosine in its entirety: /idealbb/files/Cosine

Cosine is around half commercial services and hi tech industry, and then some good old fashioned crazy street neighborhoods.  I just could not resist my new discovery of using the control key to zone some 4x4 residential near my really spiffy highway interchange. And do not worry, I will get rid of those irrelevant things at the bottom right.

    /idealbb/files/Cosine

Best dern bus service in the Southeast is what they say, but I think it is propoganda just so they could convince the government to let them buy a bunch of busses and drive them around nowhere. /idealbb/files/cosine

More busses.  In my cities, people love busses, and then when I finally get the urge to connect my roadtop mass transit to the subway, they all stop riding the busses. /idealbb/files/Cosine

Here are some folks living peacefully even in the presence of confusing roads. /idealbb/files/Cosine

    /idealbb/files/Cosine

    /idealbb/files/Cosine

These fools think that just because they are rich they can put up houses with big yards......on a dadgum 4x4 dense residential lot.  Well I got some news for you mister rich sirs... /idealbb/files/Cosine

You will get built over and have to live in Martin apartments.

I have since gotten 3 more of these and do not consider them excessively rare, but still they are excessively cool.

I think that I have a really quiet bunch of fans, like the kind of folks that do not have much to say, and that is okay because I did not have much to say and when I tried to have much to say, all kinds of irrelevant topics flew from my mouth, luckily they crashed and burned before they flew into anybodys ears (If that did not make sense, here is what I meant in a simpler form: I never had anything interesting to say).  Yes, that is how it was, and I would like to believe things are changed.

So the moral of the story is:  do not be afraid to say something because practice is the only way to get better at being an interesting person.  Also I will take requests for pictures of cities, or questions and such.

To be honest tlannister, That monorail bridges the river and then deadends on the other side where there is some industry.  But on the side where the bridge is coming from, it connects to Clarp on the east, Crump on the south, and A_tab to the west.  I get an average of around a thousand people an any given point on the monorail, except one spot in Clarp where 17,000 fools were riding.  The real people mover in my region is the subway system.

I am forgetful, and I have forgotten to show y'all one of my new discoveries that happened while making highways in Tarp. /idealbb/files/Tarp

Tada!!!  It is 2 elevated highways, one horizontal, and the other coming in diagonal.  The interesting part is that the diagonal highway elevates itself even higher.  I love how this looks so I had to find a way to make a workable interchange. This is the result: /idealbb/files/Tarp

Don't tell anyone, but only one of those 2 connecter things are needed.  Also if you care,  ground highway can do the same thing.  Happy viewing.

Let's see... It's a nice region...I don't want to say this, but it's nothing special. I mean compared to San Frogfaceco's journel with the transit maps and story telling about it's history, your journel is just average. When it comes to the region, it's one of the best out their!

So far this is one of the best cities I have seen on here. I like how it is not only dense, but you dont seem to have much abandonment, or deterioated buildings. Do you use the Deseriablity mod? or just adjust taxes levels to get this. Besides that I look forward to more pics.

Well, smurfer2,  I appreciate your honesty and agree with you entirely.  I like how a lot of people make storylines for their cities, but it is not a talent I have (yet).  This is not my first region, but it is my first city journal and as you can probably tell, I am learning as I go.  Maybe someday I will be able to make and present cities that are as good as this frogface character you have referred to.

Back to the region:  This 4 day weekend I had (Sat and Sun, then MLK Day, and teacher in service day) did not quite end up how I envisioned it (4 days of constant citybuilding), and therefore I have not done too much work on the region.  What I have done is plan some more on my region and lay out some transportation on my new cities of Denominator and Sine.  I will hopefully get some updates for yall within the next day or two.

Here is a small update of what has been going on in the Republic of Southeast Nowhere.
Here is a recent picture of the region and after that is a transportation map.
    /idealbb/files/Trsn
    /idealbb/files/trsn
The cities that still have a lot of work in front of them are: Sine(just out of view to the left) Denominator, Cosine, Schick, Tarp, and Plug.

I usually prefer finishing a city before I take pictures and post them, but I will try something new and show you some pictures of Denominator and Plug in their early stages.
Here is Plug, before I fixed up the terrain (The water in this region is all extremely shallow except for rivers):
    /idealbb/files/plug
Notice how the shore is pretty rough, and the water is all unnecessarily shallow.

Now here is Plug after I smoothed a few things out and made it mostly to my liking:

    /idealbb/files/plug
Sometimes I lay out transportation before I build, other times I build as I go.  Here I have decided to build the transportation first and here is the result:

There is a pretty simple pattern I have used throughout most of my region:  1 north/south highway, and 1 east/west highway per medium terrain (that means 2 of each for large terrains). Railroads and monorail follow the same pattern.  Avenues, roads, and subway all follow a pretty haphazard and otherwise unstructured system.

Now, for actual new city content, here is the buzz in Denominator:

This is a neighborhood filling the tip of a peninsula originating in Sine.

Here is a downtown type area of Denominator.  There is still a long way to go, but I know there will be a lot of neighborhoods like this one:

As you may have noticed, my highways have recently become more haphazard and rarely do the logical t-intersection or the logical cloverleaf.  One day I just thought I should try something at least a little bit different, and I liked the results, so now it is just what I do: /idealbb/files/denominatorhttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/denominator%20highway.jpg border=0>
This one is from Denominator ^

And this is what I did in Sine:
    /idealbb/files/Sine
Yeah, you could say it is a waste of space and money, but who is willing to say it is ugly?.......And after about 20 minutes of trying to justify this in my mind, I came up with this: If you make a wrong turn, it is not the end, because you have a minimum of 2 chances to go in any direction.

That is it for today, I hope you have enjoyed, and as always feel free to speak your mind and ask your questions.  Also, I am bothered by the fact that nobody has commented on my region name, or my city names...does anybody like them?

Sorry whiteshark365, I must have overlooked your post, so I will answer your questions here.  If I have not said it already, I use the transit supermod, which has made for almost no abandonment, although it gives people the tendency to look for the furthest possible job.  I do not use any desireability mods, (unless there is a slight adjust in demand for commercial within the transit supermod).  Along these lines, I would like to state that one of my major commercial cities (Smat), has a much higher commercial demand that I attribute to all the people traveling to and through the city.

As for tax levels, most of the cities have 9% on all residential wealths, except Clarp, which I had to lower taxes after I reached around 500,000 people (I think they are at either 5 or 7).

Commercial taxes stay at 9% except Smat, where $$$ and $$ office are at 0 because I earn so much from $$$CS and about twice as much from mass transit.

Industrial taxes in residential cities are very high for dirty and manufaturing, and usually lower than 9 for hi tech.  My industry cities are usually 9 across the board.

    Hope this answers your question

Just so you can know what else I am doing on Simtropolis:

For anybody that likes my highway interchanges, I have started a thread called Alternative Highway Interchanges in the citybuilding concepts forum.  I posted all of my new intersection types from my region, and I invite anyone else with new highway interchanges to post a picture of theirs on that thread.

Also I ran one of my first experiments under the name of: Commuting from city A, to city B, then back to A.  It is a long title name but the idea behind the test is still pretty interesting, even if the results are disappointing.

    Hey Skittles,
Great region you've got going! I love seeing regions that are well balanced with hi-density downtowns and low-density suburbs. Great work, keep it up... This is a refreshing new region to follow!

Hey everyone, I want to apologize again for not having any new progress on my cities, but I want to announce that my friend, Brandon (registered as brandmantm) has started a city journal using the same region as I am.  The name of his region is Santanbo and he has started near the top left of the region.

I will get some more pictures when I get a chance to make progress that is worth showing.  Until then if you are interested in what I have been working on besides this city journal, you can check out the 2 threads I talked about in my last post.
