When I start getting bigger, what happens to industrial vs commercial demand? Do I always need certain percentage of my jobs as industrial or does that change when you get bigger and more educated pop and can give your population more commericial jobs.

Also why I'm asking is because I would like to know the details if they are posted here, tried looking for them honest! 4.gif

I don't use any mods because I enjoy the challenge, but my question is if I really wanna build huge cities is the industry x4 mod required.

I don't know the definitive answer to your question but I'll share what little I know.  I am still new so take with a grain of salt.

I satisfy my Industrial demand early on with another region having all the I-D and power plants so that my residential and commercial region(s) can be pollution free.  As education and desirability go up I check the RCI demand graph and I see they now want I-H.  I then set tax rates for I-D and I-M to 20% and put down dense industry zones for the new industry demand.

Also, as population increases and also education I see more demand for commercial office space.  The adviser pops up and says to put down more commercial zones.   That's when I usually bulldoze the cheaper housing for dense commercial zones.

I'm like you where I hate mods too.  I did end up installing NAM as the stupid sims would not use the traffic networks I built.  So that does seem to help.  But I am not really interested in the others yet.

Just keep checking the RCI demand from the graph menu.  It will tell you exactly what your sims want.  Things like education and desireability do affect the Industry Vs. Commercial desires.

HTH,

Jim

If you want lots of commercial jobs, you're going to need industry. Manufacturing and high tech industries provide good jobs while boosting commercial office demand. Keep your sims educated and you dirty industry demand will stay low.

The Industry quadrupler mod isn't necessary, but I find it's useful since industry tends to take up a whole lot of space, unlike residential and commercial which have the tendency to build up rather than out after your population gets high enough. If you want something less drastic I think there is the option to only double Industry jobs, maybe it's a different mod? I'm not 100% sure on that.

The percentages may change over time, but you will definitely need both industry and commerce, as they help each other grow. Having I-HT is good for CO demand, which provides lots of $$$ jobs. And I-HT provides mostly R$$ jobs, unlike other industries and commerce which are mostly $ jobs.

Unless you want to grow you're city really fast I'd just keep playing every day for as long as It takes. But if it takes too long than try noteing the community or me. Mabey take tips from other mayors because you may need a new stratagey. 49.gif
