sounds wierd at first, but reading the article at gamespy daily really promisses an interesting gameplay.

so basically, you are a hero-like RPG figure that makes his fellows start to build up a community until you find out that resources are in the hands of evelknievel monsters.

Pretty much like age of empires or something, but the city building aspect is a little more than just build-a-base

check the article here

Well I think it might be a cool game, I never liked that you only have to build up your base and go for victory.

I like the settlers-like feeling this game seems to deliver.

I like the concept in theory. I spent much of the summer playing Oblivion and replaying the Civilization franchise. I've always like the idea of an open-ended Civ type game. And finding ways to earn resources sound cool. I'm even on the verge of trying a game called Settlers -Rise of an Empire.

Buuuut... this is Tilted Mill we're talking about. Even forget what was done with the so-called Sim City sequel, (as if anybody who attends these forums really can). I found the controls in Ceasar IV so unresponsive and counterintuitive. And in the GameSpy review they are acknowledged that can't budget in a higher-level engine. I for one would be willing to pay extra for the higher level production values that I'm used to seeing from the other games. I'll wait to see what the reviews say, but I really wish it was company like Firaxis, Bethesda, or Sierra carrying out what sounds like an intriguing innovation rather than a company I associate with mediocrity.

Well, I really support your idea of playing settlers. one of my all-time favorite games., although I like the older settler games (settlers - settlers 4) way more than the new ones, with the exception of settlers 2 next generation that actually is a 3d-remake of settlers 2.

What concerns the Tilted Mill part in this game... well... we all have a bad taste hearing the name cuz they screwed sim city up... but that's I think because everyone had so terribly high expectations to get a game that's even better than SC4, and in fact, they turned the whole gameplay around making a "new" type of city simulation ("new" cuz the social part has already been there in constructor) instead of setting a new milestone in the SC franchise.

But you should consider that this doesn't necessarily means that other games by TM are crap aswell.

Actually my problem with Tilted Mills wasn't with Sim City Societies per se. In order to prepare for SCS I bought Ceaser IV and Children of the Nile. I found the controls very clumsy and difficult to manipulate. It was to difficult to place objects, to zoom in and out, to pan, and especially to select objects. I eventually broke down and bought Societies as part of the "SimCity Box" set. But I could not even make it out of the tutorial b/c the controls were difficult. The one thing I liked about the game was that I could take pictures and make screen shots. But I still felt frustrated and gave up. Now the Game Spy review says the company is contracting out to use an average engine for its visuals for its newest game. I'm sorry, but if I'm spending my money then I want my eye candy, just like I would for a Hollywood blockbuster.  I don't think a little complexity and ease of use to immerse the player is too much to ask for either.  All of the above is evidence to me of mediocrity.

But again I still like the concept and potential of the game; I just wish it was being produced by a more reliable company.   Thanks for your review of Settlers.  I'm eager to see what awaits!  10.gif

A problem, you are too harsh minded about Tilted Mill because Children of The Nile seems to be a good game and Hinterland will surely be a good game since EA has not views on it....

For example i buyed Seven Kingdoms Conquest and i find it nice 2.gif Sim City Societies, nice too, specially with Destinations, i hope will have future add-ons or patches...
