It depends on what kind of map you have. You must not upload city or rendered region files under any circumstances.

If you have a greyscale height map then you upload to the map category. You will have to provide the greyscale height map in jpeg format, a screenshot of the rendered region, and a description for your map. If your greyscale height map is anything other than 1025x1025 then you will also need to provide a suitable config.bmp file.

If you have an SC4Mapper or SC4 Terraformer file, you will need to put in a zip and upload it to the prop category. You will need to provide a screenshot of the rendered region in the game.

I hope this helps.

You can't make a region in the game and upload it to the exchange. There is no way to export the file from the game in a suitable format (SC4 Terraformer might be able to do it but I'm not sure). When we say you must not upload city or region files to the STEX, this means you cannot create your maps in the game and upload them.

The only ways you can make a region suitable to upload to the STEX is to either create a greyscale image using a paint program (if you are using real world DEM data then this usually means extracting that DEM data via mapping software to a height map, for example using Global Mapper or Microdem) or using SC4 Terraformer to create a terraformer file.

There is all the information you need on both of these methods in the OmniMaps -- Mapping and Terraforming Information section of the Omnibus. It includes detailed information on how to upload your files to the STEX.
