An odd situation.

Ok, so the story goes like this:

A few months ago, my computer became overloaded with viruses and could not start. Because i loved my computer so dearly, i used a recovery disc which would retain some files left on my desktop computer, including simcity 4 (rush hour).

Now after I got my computer running, I poped in the simcity 4 rush hour disk in, it said I had to install it. BUT, I am still able to run the game. So, if i have the disk in and click the simcity 4 icon, the game works fine. I have allot of plugins, i have multiple cities, the simcity folders are all there, but the game isn't officialy installed (if that makes any sense). Now when I do click the 'install' button for simcity 4 rush hour, it says i need to install sim city 4. So I need to install the original simcity 4 then rush hour, in order for my game to be officiall.

I would probably keep it the way it is, because the game works. But because it is not installed, i cannot recive the sim city update nor can i run lot editor. I was wondering if i were to install the original simcity 4, that it might make me lose all of my plugins and files that are currently on my computer, which are for rush hour. Should I back up all my files then add them after I am done installing? If anybody knows what to do, please tell me. I am just worried that my rush hour files will be lost if i go to install the first simcity 4.

I hope that made sense to sombody who can help.

It sounds like you do need to reinstall, but you should probably go through Windows and uninstall the game first.  When you do that, it typically asks you if you want to erase your data (cities, plugins, etc.).  Although that should work, I never trust it.  Before doing anything you can copy the information in your desktop/documents/simcity4 to folders on your desktop.  The game uninstall/install should not mess with the files on your desktop.  After you get the game re-installed, just copy the contents of your back-up folders to the appropriate folders in My Documents.
