Help with getting GLR going

I'm trying to set up a glr system that runs mainly through the avenue medians.  I have a stretch of track set up with some of Shmails GLR Avenue Stations in place.  However, I see no tram automata and when I do a traffic query on the stations I just get car and bus traffic, nothing from the rails.  How do I get my glr working?

You will have to set up your GLR network in a way that you have at least some stretches that are GLR exclusive. If you only use the GLR-in-avenue stations, and only those puzzle pieces, the distance for GLR and road (avenue) is always the same, and we all know that most sims prefer the car, just like in real life. If you have some GLR lines that are actually shorter than your roads, you should see GLR usage as well.

Ok... I had thought about that earlier today.  What I'm going to experiment with, since I have my city divided into res and comm districts is remove the road connecting them and replace it w/ glr, so all res will have road connection, all comm has road connections but they don't interconnect.
