New Wales

Goverment: Constitutional Monarchy & Parliamentary System

Population: Roughly 900,000

Capital: Foghaert Point (Pronounced Fog-hart)

Official Language(s): English, French, Welsh

Demonym: Walers (Pronouced Whalers)

Currency: Dollar (American)

Patron Saint: David

Official Religon(s): Catholicism

In the early 1700s an explorer by the name of James Alexander Foghaert set out to the New World where a parcel of land sat under his name. The area was a peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It had one large river which passed though it (The Wobtegwa River) and many other bodies of water. It was mostly a hilly region with three large mountains to the east, but near the intersection of two rivers, the Wobtegwa and Hodgen, there was a large flat area that strected from the intersection to the bay down the river. This is where settlement began...

Here you see the placement of New Wales among the New England States of America, as well as the path of the Wobtegwa River.

A closer view of the small country of New Wales, with many of the cities and towns shown. The cities and towns on this map have more than 15,000 residents. The large river flowing from the Atlantic Ocean to Hampshire Bay is the Wobtegwa.

The area is prone to harsh weather systems and has many, many storms.

Snow is a bountiful product in New Wales.

I like it when I read through a CJ that has a good, solid start. This sure looks to have a lot of potential, and the teasers give me an idea of a well done city. I hope to see more soon, good luck!

Nice! I like the way you've chosen your location. The snowy picture is a good feature. It's been so long since i've seen proper snow! It's usually gust sludge! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your development.

    Author's Note:

This is where the story really starts.

It's in the view of an un-named young man who's never been to New Wales.

     I hope you enjoy it!

    ~*~

I had been drivivng on the tight, ancient road in New Wales for hours. As soon as I had left Boston on New Wales Route 1, it seemed like a dragging repitition of tall, green trees and little ocean views, even though the strong scent of salt water filled my nostrils. I had always imagined New Wales to be a sprawling urban dream, but all I had seen (so far) was forest.

My family was originally from New Wales, but my mother, Maggie, had moved us to Boston where she worked at Massachusetts General Hosptial. Now I was on my way to reclaim the family house in Foghaert Point and make a living in a new country just a few hours from where I had grown up.

Thank goodness, I said to myself as I passed a sign that read "Welcome to Younger". Finally I was in my Great Aunt Louisa's town.

    youngerentrancecy9.jpg

My Great Aunt Louisa was my grandmother Anne's best friend. They lived right near each other in Younger and shared every moment of their lives with each other. Sadly, my grandmother died a few years back, so now only my Aunt Louisa and Uncle Fred lived in Younger.

    auntlouisashouserk8.jpg

My mother had given me a postcard from Younger and circled Louisa's house. The town looked tolerable enough.

    youngerpostcardyn1.jpg

Then I could hear the sound of crashing waves and pulled over of the busy road, hopping out of the car. The crisp feeling of being ocean-side intoxicated me. Finally, I was really in New Wales.

But all this fog really got on my nerve.

The storyline sounds good, and you've done a great job with the forest scene! Can't wait to see the city.

That's a great way of telling the story... and a town called Younger... that's a very nice name.

nihonkaranws: Thanks. I really tried to make it as realistic as possible, so I hope once we get Downtown you'll like it!

Schulmanator: Many of my towns have very different feels to them. You'll get farmland, ski resort, fishing village, metropolis, run-down ghetto type areas, suburbs, ect.

psander5: Haha, thanks. I try to so my best with photo-shopping, even though I don't have photoshop. I use PhotoFiltre, it's great.

edmonton_stinks: Thank you. I tried my best.

psander5: Yeah, I was trying to go at this CJ-ing thing from a different, more personal perspective.

SCDawg: Thanks. The forests are PEG's Seasonal Trees, and it was *hell* plopping tons of those 2X2 and 1X1 lots, but it's worth it as you watch the trees change with the seasons.

jacqulina: Thanks, i'm glad you liked the pics.

Sadly, because Imageshack is stubborn and just quits on you sometimes, I only have a few teaser pics for you, but I thought they came out very nicely.

Schulmanator: Haha, I bet they would. I wonder if people are gullible enough...4.gif

    vinvin du 13: Thanks!

edmonton_stinks: Thanks, I try my best.

BEFORE I START THIS UPDATE, ONE QUESTION:

Would you rather a downtown with mainly very tall skycrapers

    ~or~

A more realistic downtown with more diversity among the heights of buildings?

I jumped back into the car and started to drive further along the sea-hugging New Wales Route 1.

Eventually, after passing numerous farms, I turned along a bend in the road and saw Younger open up in front of me.

I turned onto Azalea and then Main, and was pulled into small town life as I searched for Aunt Louisa's house.

Then, my GPS, which was installed with a thing called Historica which told key facts about places, popped up with information on Younger:

Eventually, and luckily, I found Aunt Louisa's house. It was a quaint structure overlooking a large farm. Suddenly, a stout woman ran out from the house and tackled me in a bear hug.

"Oh, thank god. Welcome back Charlie!"

The intro is very nice. The pictures are well edited and the content definitely reminds me of those towns in New England.

The town is charming. As for downtown, do what seems to fit your story and the land. Anything well done is cool, regardless of size.

RushHourFreak: Thank you. That's exactly the feel I was trying for.

    Schulmanator: Thank you!

Almighty Nienaber: Thanks! By the way, pretty cool screen-name.
