No Car Zots for Residential Area

I have a problem when I zone residential zones.

When I zone residential zones, I frequently get "no road" zots even though I have placed my zones right beside a road. (Btw I have updated to the lastest update before Maxis ended support for the game)

I have obseved the following:

1. Waiting years will not solve the problem.

2. If you rezone the residential zones as industrial or commerical, the no zots go away and construction of those zones begins right away (if there is demand). Rezoning back to residential gives you the same problem once again.

3. I have no installed the NAM. I will see if this can rectify the problem.

4. Plopping a residential building over a "No road" zot will make that plopped building gain that zot to, eventually leading to the abandonment of that buidling.

5. Placing civic buildings or utilities solves the problem right away ... except there are no residential zones there anymore of course.

6. Letting the game manually set the roads generall works (although I consider the game's girds to be far to small and I hold shift while zoning).

The only workaround I can think of is a plugin designed to obey the same rules for residential zones that commenrcial and industrial zones use.

After browsing a bit online, others have had this problem too, but nobody has any workarounds at this time. I have attached an image (a screenshot at night) to show a typical example.

Thanks for listeing.

In the pic, the residential zone arrows (indicating where the front of the homes will be) are not touching a road, street, or avenue. In other words, the arrows must face a road, street, or avenue.

Ah, I see your problem.  You see those arrows?  Those arrows must be facing a road.  I mean, right by the road.    This setup would have worked in the older games, but SC4 is a bit more picky (and realistic) about roads.  See how the 1x2 rectangles at the bottom of each block don't have the zots?  That's how all the zones should be, in relation to a road.

In this picture, which I just found in my photobucket, you can see these 1x1 apartments, but notice how they are all facing the road.  This is what the game requires that you do (with both residential and commercial - it's not so picky with industry.)

    Lol thanks.

I noticed that industrial and commercial zones are much less picky about this. I wonder if a plugin can be made to make it less picky. I'll think about it.

    Hello chris0101,

You might try combinations of the shift key with either the alt key or the control key or both (while zoning). And both the alt key and control key may be used without the shift key, too.

All residential and commercial lots must have a road along the facing side (the side with the arrows). Some will only grow on lots that are on corners; a few may even require two corners. Industrial anchor lots will require the same - only the puzzle piece outlying industrial lots will grow away from a road (or street or avenue).

    Please enjoy the game,
