I have been playing a lot over the past month, and I keep running into the same walls very quickly in every city:

1.  My cities become overrun with "no job" zots and a big chunk of my R zones get abandoned.  This will happen even if industrial demand is negative, R demand is sky hight, and I put industry right next to houses.  The houses get built and filled lickety split but immediately get no-job zots and every house says it has a medium or long commute.  And I'm using the radical transit mods - they seem to have little effect!  I have been playing with all kinds of mass transit strategies but it seems like my methods are getting severe - only roads even in the tiniest villages, bus stops on every corner - and it isn't solving the problem.  Is there a basic strategy element I'm missing?

2. Is there a way to control the wealth levels of your zones?  My R zones never stay low-weath for long, and I end up with nothing but posh houses that swallow up all the zoned R space.  Any tips on encouraging certain wealth levels in certain areas of your city?  Particularly creating low-weath R neighborhoods?

I apologize if these questions are actually hugely complicated and not answerable.  But if you have tips, please do share.

Thanks!

dont apologize! you asked, so we can help! for the wealth, just raise the taxes in that city. that should get rid of most of those types of wealth. now for different neighborhoods in certain areas, leave education and health out of there. those two attract $$ and $$$ wealth sims. and about the traffic. it seems like it is always bad...always. sorry!

Hello joecollege05,

If you get the SC4Tool - there is a building listing in it.

Note - custom content (i.e. downloaded lots) may change what is stated below:

A good lot size for low wealth residential is 2 wide by 4 deep high density - as

Maxis didn't provide any medium wealth or high wealth buildings/lots of this size.

(FYI - the lot editer has this miss-named as a 4 x 2 - but it grows on a 2 x 4.)

Short of having bedroom communities (each of only one wealth level),

the best way to control the wealth of the residential sims that move into

your city is to study the building guide in the SC4Tool for building/lot footprints

that are available to only one wealth level, like the 2x4 example given above.

-NetPCDoc

No detail is too small to be micromanaged.

u can control wealth levels by limiting what services you provide.

low wealth will develop if there is no water, no fire coverage, no police coverage, no medical, no ANYTHING.

as for the 'no jobs', you should see how educated the sims are.

if they are well educated, build commercial or high tech.
