Welcome to Monaco

Freedom We Fight, Cities We Light

Fifty years after the founding of the City of Santa Clara, it has gone into huge successes economically and culturally. Now, Mr. Gavin Periwinkle, the Mayor of Santa Clara, has laid out plans to create a new region that will be called Monaco. The Mayor has presided a conference at the Santa Clara Center, with all of the City Council members and Monaco Region advocates present, to discuss the plans for the region. This event happened with the "Santa Clara @ 50" event, which commemorated the 50th year of the City of Santa Clara. He instituted a new project for the rest of the region, entitled "Develop Monaco", in which he appointed Mr. Matthew Correa, one of the premier architects of the City of Santa Clara, to design the future parks and structures for the Monaco Region, and Ms. Paula Redskin, a well-known accountant from Northern Trust Bank, the leading bank in the region, to finance the project.

Mr. Periwinkle gave a statement for the development of Monaco Region as:

"It will be my pleasure to pursue the regional development of Monaco, in which it has started with the creation of Santa Clara, and our city will be more than helpful to create a diversified region where people can visit, live, and do business in. The people of Santa Clara have been pursuing the Develop Monaco project, as well as other mayors surrounding our area (Providence, South Santa Clara, Hampton, and Beverly Hills), and I will extend my heartwarming support to develop Monaco as a premier destination for businessmen and travelers alike."

Meanwhile, Mr. Michael Fox, Mayor of Providence and a horticulturist, gave a keynote address to the audience, saying:

"For the people of Providence and Santa Clara, building a region requires a lot of skill, planning, and organization that we all have. A dynamic and creative population, the people of Providence have been more than willing to participate in the Develop Monaco project, and it has been my pleasure that we (with Mayor Periwinkle) join hands together in making this project the best we can. Our town has already created a proposition that says, 'The Town of Providence is willing to exploit the huge, barren landscape that the whole region has, and we are willing to develop the region into a spectacular commercial and industrial haven, catering to all people.' Our town has been coordinating with Mr. Periwinkle to bring in the best architects, city planners, and landscape artists to design the various cities in the region, both large and small, including the future capital, Monaco City, that will host to a majority of government offices, as well as a large Financial Center that all people will enjoy having business in. I am so pleased of Mr. Periwinkle's forward-thinking plans, and I am with him to develop Monaco into a prestigious center for business."

Ms. Kara Leland, Santa Clara Tourism Board chief, described the Develop Monaco project as:

"The Monaco region, as of today, only consists of two real cities: Santa Clara and Providence. Although we have a lot of tourists coming into both cities, they want more than just those cities to be developed because of the huge potential to create tourist havens and natural landmarks that will pour in billions of simoleons to the economy. The City of Santa Clara, in particular, has been enjoying enormous success with the opening of a large Central Park that doubles as a photo-taking spot for aircraft enthusiasts due to its proximity to the Monaco City International Airport, and it has been attracting thousands of businesses to the city because of its historically-low tax rates that are the lowest in the region. In light of the Develop Monaco project, the Santa Clara Tourism Board will be more than willing to coordinate with the government officials and citizens of Santa Clara to develop the region into a tourist haven."

Mr. Correa responded to Mr. Periwinkle's call for him to design the future of Monaco, saying in a press conference: "Mr. Periwinkle and I will have joint plans for the future of the region, and I am more than thankful that I will be working with the most active Mayor of Santa Clara I have ever been working with to make the Develop Monaco project a reality."

Some activists who are against the project, though, made a statement in nearby Cervantes Square, saying: "Develop Monaco will be paid at the expense of Santa Clara taxpayers. There are so many businesses in the city who are willing to help, but it looks like that the only businesses that will benefit from the project include the accounting and insurance companies, petrochemical companies, and a small number of wealthy businessmen who want to exploit the regional area. Why won't Mayor Periwinkle listen to our demands to  develop Santa Clara's social needs first before focusing on Monaco?"

With all of the sides said, here are Mayor Periwinkle's plans for the region:

Short-Term Long-Term  - Extend the City of Santa Clara's growth by creating suburbia south of the city

 - Promote the growth of the Town of Providence by increasing agricultural jobs and output that will enable food security

 - Creating the northern suburbs of Santa Clara, the Town of Hampton and the City of Beverly Hills, and making them into first-class neighborhoods, with low residential taxes and high-quality schools

 - Making all the cities livable by putting up the necessary facilities to facilitate overall human development, including parks, schools, colleges, and workplaces

 - Establish a large-scale transit system that will enable free-trade of goods from one city to another

 - Providing more businesses, commercial and industrial, that will benefit the region

 - Establish a long-term commitment to the various cities of Monaco region wherein governments will cooperate in the overall regional development

 - Create a widespread democratic government wherein the citizenry will be able to question authority when needed and ask the governments for needed actions and facilities that will enhance regional development

 - Create an environmentally-friendly region wherein rivers and mountains coexist, and creation of greenbelts in all cities to fortify our commitment to nature

Here are some of the pictures Mayor Periwinkle presented to the various leaders and members of the Santa Clara community. The first one shows an overview of the region. Mr. Periwinkle commented the photo as a "wide plain area, in which a potential for a river will take place in the south-central part of Monaco that will introduce water supply to the whole region."

The second picture depicts a close-up shot of the City of Santa Clara and the surrounding area, in which Mr. Periwinkle acclaimed as, "Santa Clara is an outstanding city where people can enjoy business and live in harmony."

Mr. Correa's speech outlined his future transport plans for the Monaco Region, in which he described as: "The region will be interconnected with several freeways, numbered consecutively on the time they were built, and rail transport will be vital for the development of the region. Each city will also have extensive bus services, several cities will have Light Rail (GLR) services, and the whole region will be connected by five (5) High-Speed Rail lines, connecting the whole region altogether."

Note the color scheme:

Blue indicates freeways, green indicates avenues, black indicates railways

Ms. Redskin thought of the transportation plan as a "grand master plan that will require billions of simoleons and thousands of workers to complete the job", but she believes that with a large population willing to work for the Develop Monaco project, it will be a memorable experience for everyone because the region will soon become a region that the people will always come back to visit.

Additionally, Mr. Periwinkle has posted an online poll question that he wants you to answer so that he will have less time to think about naming cities in the region and focus instead on developing them.

Chapter One: The Creation will be coming out soon!
