traffic problems (avenues)

Ok. So today I created a new city and built avenues along the perimeter of my grid and one crossing the middle. As soon as i unpause I get major congestion. The roads are red in the in the traffic view chart.

Is this due to how the signals work on avenues (delay time for sims?). Anyways, it is very frustrating. Anyone know what im doing wrong, or have advice with traffic in general...

Quick tip - avenues tend to be a bit one way - until they reach a cross street/road/avenue or the end of the avenue.

Try building more avenues across the map, it will help ease congestion and commercial grows good along them

I guess you should start to replace segments of your avenues to highways, get trains and busses it also lowers commute time. Hope it helps...
