Just throwing this out there... this is a layout I've thought of for a new city.  Does anyone care to give me any input or modify it a bit?  I would like to see people's suggestions.  Thanks.

Welcome to Simtropolis

If it were mine:

I'd move the I-HT to the other side of the map nearer the cbd and large residential zone. (Maybe on the lower left). I'd also move the ID closer to the river bank so it can use the ports, and maybe break it up a bit. You are going to need jobs in your top left corner of some kind. Large blocks of a particular zone don't work as well as smaller or interlaced zones. I'd also suggest interlacing your CBD with commercial and residential. I'd also extend the residential along the lower edge of the map. I'd also suggest with the lower right highway, leave it run along the top of the residential as it is, but have it turn more sharply and cut more deeply into the CBD city block to improve transport options.

On the river opposite your cbd you could have a cultural precinct with museums, art galleries and riverside parks and plazas. Maybe even sporting venues.

Ferries would work well

yea, u hav to hav little business districts all around ur residential areas. That way, each neighbourhood has their very own grocery store and they don't hav to travel halfway across townto shop. Also, i would lower the amount of dirty industry and probably move the high tech closer to the business district, but thats me. Other than that i think the layout is great.

50th post!! lol

try placing the cbd more in the center, possibly spanning the river, that way youll be able to more evenly distribute your jobs. also, as noted, you probably wont need (or want) that much dirty industry, unless you plan on having low wealth suburbs (i personally like high-wealth everything, but i know some people prefer the realism of low wealth areas). also, i am assuming that the lil boxes you have coming out in the water by the water are docks. if i were you i'd put any dirty industry you have directly up against the coast by the ports, minimizing freight traffic on your city roads and being more realistic (as high tech industry is normally closer to downtown areas and business districts while dirty industry is normally on the outskirts or by water. anyways i hope the suggestions were helpful. good luck be sure to show us what you come up with.
