ATi and Framerates

Hello my computer saavy friends.  I have a question for you.

Ian and I both have ATi video cards, and are having problems with framerates on both.  Whenever we play a 3D game or application (Ian is even having problems with WMP11), we both experience erratic and inconsistent framerates.  The video is often jerky, even though both of our cards are testing well over 30fps in games such as Flight Simulator (DirectX 9.0c) and 18 WoS (OpenGL). We have both updated, and rolled back to old drivers, to no avail.

Ian's new setup:

Dell Dimension Desktop

Core 2 Duo (1.8 Ghz each core)

1GB Ram

ATi 2400XT (256MB Vram) (700Mhz GPU core)

Windows XP Home

My setup:

Dell 1501 Notebook

AMD Athlon X2 (1.7Ghz each core)

2GB RAM

ATi Radeon Xpress 1150 700MB Vram (shared) (400Mhz GPU core)

Windows XP Home/Windows Vista Basic (Dual boot config)

I am the only one who has run Flight Sim 2004, but both of us run 18 WoS with the same problems.

Neither one of these systems should be having problems running either of these apps, yet they do.

Did you put the cards in, or were they bought with the computers?
If you put them in, then it may be an ESD issue.

Ahh, Integrated chips can sometimes be real PoS. If you can, check to see if it is seated properly, If it's not, then time for a new motherboard. I would check with the ATI website to see if anyone else has had this problem.
