Really Simple Question...

I got SimCity 4 a long while ago and played it a lot... But then, I got Rush Hour this past Sunday as a late gift from a friend (no clue where they got it) and I started playing that day. But since I'm in college and have to stay on campus throughout the week I couldn't play it.  For some reason, my 1 Gb ram laptop won't play SimCity 4 (much less SC4 with RH) without horrendous lag, but my 384 Mb computer at home plays it fine... so I've spent maybe 2-3 hours playing it (unfortunately) and can't wait until this weekend to try everything out.

So, maybe someone could please give a brief intro to what NAM is and how it's used? And maybe any other quick pieces of info I might need as a new player to RH (that's not in SC4)?

Heh hopefully that's not too much to ask... Thanks!

***Alright, I found a topic on this from a month ago. So I kinda know what it is... is there a single NAM download? Or are there several that we need? I searched 'NAM' under the STEX and found several, which one is right?

Thanks again.

This exact thing happened to me when I installed Rush Hour. Unfortunately I can't remember just what I did to fix it...

Now I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the graphics or video card, I didn't need a new one or anything like that, I just had to change some setting and it started to flow again.

My guess is that you should check that they are compatible with DirectX 7.0, although I'm no expert so I'm just going on what I can remember. Sorry if you can't find any answers.

As for your NAM problem, there's the Main File, which you need for the NAM, and then  then there are things that can be thought of as plugins like the Rural Highway, the Street Add-on Mod and the additional bridges ect. I'd just download the whole lot if you want all the good stuff but you can have the NAM with just the essentials. Oh and of course you'll need the actual NAM download that can be found in the Modds and Downloads section here.

    Thanks!!

Yea I think it has to do with the graphics card. I played it at home for 2 hours on my home computer until I had to go back to campus... After I dled SC4 (without RH) on my laptop a while back and realized the lag was terrible I didn't bother playing on it again lol. I'm so excited to go home this weekend and try everything out!

Btw, I went to HK twice this year, and can't wait to see your buildings (and the other HK buildings) in game!!!

Also there is a certain order you have to install the NAM in eg:

    1) June 07 NAM

    2) NAM essentials

    3) Update NAM Jan 08

and then RHW (If you want it) then SAM (if you want that) and then additional bridges (these are found on www.sc4devotion.com

Otherwise the Cleanitol file will uninstall updated files ( Install Cleanitol first ( also found on www.sc4devotion.com 2.gif) You'll need to register twice - once for the forums and again for the LEX. Hope that helps. I also find datpacker (onSC4Devotion) stopped all my zoom crashes. I'd suggest reading the NAM readme files carefully before installing as there are optional components to the NAM that you have to choose during the install such as betterpathfinding or 10x pathfinding. Find out what they mean before you have to choose. Have fun!9.gif
