Quick tech question.

Yeah, you can do it. Personally, I've never done it myself, but I know people have used TVs for monitors. If I were you, the first thing I would be researching would be how to set up a media center computer, because lots of computers relegated for that job will be tying into a TV.

Thanks. My main question was if the cables would go into the back of that box thing and work fine.

The component cables (red/green/blue) won't work with the composite inputs (the red/white/yellow on your RCA thing). I'll try and break it down for you so you can understand why.

Component cables divide the color up into three different cables, red green and blue. In order to get sound, you still need those red and white cables. With the composite cables, they usually come with the red/whites (basically your left and right sound) and the yellow cable carries all of the picture. If you try and plug the component cables into the RCA box, the best you'll get would be a high quality black and white image.

You'll probably need something similar to this guy. It has component inputs as well as composite inputs so it will support your Wii and N64 as well.

Edit: I'm not sure how new your TV is but it looks like it's a CRT.. a few years back they started giving them component inputs as well. You might be able to plug your PC into the TV directly, if your cable is long enough and your TV has said inputs.

The TV only has composite inputs. No component or S-video.

Those should do fine. You'll need the right kind of cable but it should work - and a wireless keyboard/mouse couldn't hurt.

Edit: Oh, wait. Got my terms confused... that might not work. You might be able to get some sort of add-on though.

Well, I talked to the guy at Radioshack, apparently an 8800GTX, an old 2004 RCA switcher thing, and an old 2002-2003 CRT TV don't mix.

I'll probably have to hold off until I can get a better TV. He said the quality would be really low, and the max res I would be able to get on it would be 640x480. Er, no thanks.

He's probably right. Then again, the idea of having a giant flatscreen TV to play SC4 on - it dazzles the mind 9.gif

Perhaps an investment for later, then..? Or you could get a projector, that'd do the job just as well.

Hehe.. the more things the signal needs to pass through, the more it reduces the quality.. and the TV being a CRT which is only capable of 480p doesn't help much. On the plus side, LCD's are coming down in price pretty rapidly. Only $500-$1000 for a decent 26"-32" that can do anywhere from 720p to 1080p.
