'Unknown Error' during install on both intel and G4 machines

Hello I've recently tried to reinstall my standard SC4 on my iBook, and I encountered a simple 'unknown error' message about a third of the way through install process. The game never really worked very well anyway on that machine, so I left it. Now I am getting the same message at around the same time on a brand new intel iMac running Leopard (the iBook is on Tiger). I'm wondering if I have a scratched disk. There are a few blemishes but nothing major, but it can't be a computer problem because they're both doing it. right? Has anyone seen this before? is it a known issue? Many thanks for any help

I have had no problems. I have the Rush Hour expansion pack, so I have to install the standard Sim City followed by the RH pack every time. I would try taking it to a CD exchange type place, they often have a service to restore CDs. SOme video stores do also.
