Legendary US daredevil Evel Knievel has died at the age of 69, his granddaughter has said.

Knievel had suffered ill-health, including diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis - an incurable lung condition - for several years.

He underwent a liver transplant, after nearly dying of hepatitis C, in 1999.

Knievel gained cult status performing death-defying stunts in the 1960s and 70s, including an attempted motorcycle jump over Snake River Canyon in Idaho.

Well thats sad, he was a cult legend with everything he did in the 60's and 70's, although it made you wonder what was going through this guys head at the time. Still sad to see him go.

After watching this, made me realize this has been a bad week for famous people passing away, with the NFL player, the Hawthorne Heights guy, Kinevel, and some others.

Wow, this is surprising because I read a story just the other day about him settling a lawsuit he had against Kanye West. It had a picture of both of them together.

Oh, no. How Ironic. A life of daring stunts, and dying by a puny disease.

I kind of feel bad for his passing. I was born in the town of Twin Falls, Idaho, where he tried to jump the Snake River Canyon. The ramp is actually still there. And no, he didn't make it. 3.gif

Well, yet another legend passes into history.

I have to admit, yes, I caused Evel Knievel's demise. When he wasn't looking, I tied one of a chain to his wheelchair and the other end to a large rock. It was difficult but I finally got the rock rolled up to the top of the ramp and then gave it a little nudge. The chain and gravity took care of the rest. 4.gif

That wasn't even remotely funny.

Personally, if I was Evel Knievel, this isn't the way that I'd have wanted to go.

Out of curiosity, how many people heard about this and then thought about how you can't cheat death forever?

I'm glad he lived long enough for a disease to get him.  When I was a kid, everyone figured he'd die being smashed up against a canyon wall or something.

It's kinda like my reaction to hearing some 60s rocker died from a disease; I'm glad he lived long enough to get the disease and didn't die young from drug abuse.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I feel the same way with this as I felt with Steve Irwin

He was crazy and taking risks, but I never really thought this day would come. I mean it's inevitable for all of us, but you know what I mean.

I guess though I feel the same as ski, glad to know he made it to the end of his run.

Yes, you think steve irwin would be eaten by a crocodile, and you think Evil Kinevel would be come flattened at the bottom of a canyon somewhere in Mexico, but no...

I had an Eveil Kinevel T-Pulled Motercycle. Shot sparks from the bottom for a while.

I had one of those! Holy cow I hadn't thought of that in 25+ years!

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.
