There is a 6 episode TV show called Perfect Disaster. I'm watching it right now, and it's great. Awesome special effects. Here is a html adress leading to the website; [http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/perfectdisaster/perfectdisaster.html] One of the episides could be deadly to Simtropolis.

In it, cold air funnels down into the St Laurence River Valley. Meanwhile a current of warm air from the Gulf of Mexico hits the mountain range on the south of the valley, and rides over the top of the valley, trapping the cold air in the valley.

-----------------------------Warm air flow

When the warm air rises over the mountains it creates a huge storm. It rises due to the updraft and is now in the cold layer, just under a kilometer over the warm layer. The rain freezes into hail, and when it gets too heavy it falls like a rock. When it hits the warm layer, it melts. Then it hits the second cold layer in the valley. It should freeze. But it doesn't. It becomes supercooled, just below freezing, but it is totally liquid. If it lands in an area still below freezing,it itself will freeze, and more solid than ordinary ice, with no pockets of air and other impurities, because it freezes to fast. It is nearly as thick as concrete. If it rained for a week,it could bring down the seven giant lines of utility poles, supplying Montreal with power. Here's the important issue; it could also affect Ontario, hometown of the Simtropolis server itself. If this weather system called an 'ice storm' and brought down power lines around the Simtropolis base, power to the Simtropolis home base would be out, so bye-bye Simtropolis, for at least a week. Now that would be the perfect disaster!

I believe the server is somewhere around Hamilton/Burlington.  Ice storms in that part of Ontario are common, particularly in the week between Christmas and New Year's.

Dirk can probably use the time off.
