Anyone familiar with Delaware

I am new at this and this is my first thread, so work with me.  I wanted to talk about new developments in these cities in DE; Wilmington, Dover, Newark and Seaford. Wilmingtons riverfront is booming with the two new condo hirerises of Christina landing and River tower along as the new Justison landing currently underconstruction. Dover is expanding its casino Dover Downs and Seaford is in the process of getting and entertainment mall. I would like if anyone living near the area could help me know whats going on. I used to live down in Seaford De until 2005 when i moved to Massachusetts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Maryland and drove by Seaford on my way to the beach last summer.   I know there is a lot of construction going on in the area.  But I don't really know much past that.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I have family that lives down in that area. The development there I'm most familiar with is the construction of DE 1, particularly the interchange with I-95 and the one directly north of it, as well as the upgrading of DE 7 to the north of there. DE 7 used to be a cow path through there. Now it's a wide six lane boulevard. In a lack of proper design, however DE 1/DE 7 intersects I-95 with a cloverleaf.. and a rather odd C/D system has it such that southbound traffic looking to get onto I-95 (exit 165) must get off exit 166, go straight through the light at the bottom of the ramp onto the onramp back onto the southbound highway, off of which the ramps to I-95 split. The situation here also has southbound traffic not getting off squeezing down to one lane. It has been called "The worst interchange in Delaware", and with good reason.

Newark is interesting in that it's perhaps the furthest east true "college town" in the country (that is, a town that wouldn't be anything near what it is or even exist without the college there). My uncle works at the University of Delaware as a computer/network technician, and got his graduate degree in chemical engineering there. I applied there, but didn't get in. I ended up going to the place where this same uncle and two other uncles of mine got their BS degrees in chemical engineering- Manhattan College. What's rather odd also, is the pronunciation difference. Newark, DE is generally pronounced "new-ark", where as Newark, NJ, and its parent in England are pronounced more like "nu-work" (with more blending of the two syllables).

Also on the college town issue, it's rather surprising that it has this status, as you'd think that UCONN would have turned Mansfield, CT into something but it hasn't. You have the university campus along with few mom & pop stores, and then corn, cows, and woods. No town. Odd that way. They have the best Ice Cream I've ever had, though... it's made from local milk and thus is a lot fresher when you have it than anything you'll ever get at the supermarket or Carvel/Baskin Robins.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

I'm from Delmarva so I'm intimately aware of Delaware. I must admit that I'm not too familiar with anything in Newcastle County as that is hardly Delmarva. I know areas like Rehoboth, Dewey, Cape Lewes, Seaford, Georgetown, Laurel, and of course Dover and such. I remember driving from Philadelphia to Salisbury, MD about a month ago while there was construction on 95 and we went 5 miles in just two hours. It was painful. I hope its done.

ah yes, storrs is just that, blankland, a common problem on the east side of the CT river though. but you have to give it credit that theres more [food, grocery stores, and small chain stores] there than there'd ever be if no college exsisted...
