Y'know, I'm exactly the opposite there. I don't eat food that isn't somehow processed. Animals eat things raw from nature. We humans are capable of improving upon them. French fries taste way better than any potato ever will, Chicken is much better in the form of chicken tenders than actual chicken, etc. But I'm just weird that way.5.gif

I think you have completely missed the point.  Fried food does not equate to processed food.  Fried food, while not healthy, is just food cooked in oil.  Processed food means things like food coloring, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, margarine, hydrogenated oils, etc, and can be extended to mass production, which involves chemical sprays and pesticides, which leave a residual amount in the food we eat.

Just a basic idea of what I tend to mean.

French fries are quite processed, actually. I'm not talking about just cutting up potatoes and frying them, those actually aren't that good. I'm talking about the stuff you buy in the frozen foods aisle (most everything there is processed somehow) or get from Burger King.

And, fact of the matter is, crops grown to be "organic" don't yield as much as those that use artificial fertilizers and pesticides... so organic farmers are basically not using their land to its full potential... which I'd say is rather wasteful. There'd be more food available if every organic farmer stopped being "organic". And while the health food types might not like that, it would mean more excess to send to all those starving kids in Africa, so it'd be for the better....

Depends what you mean by yeild. If you mean actual food-stuff your right but as a way of substaining a farmer they are great because they sell for much higher prices. Organic farming in this country is very big now and its helping support farmers who have been hit with Foot and Mouth, Bird Flu, flooding etc.

You're rationalizing, meaning you are are trying to force things to fit in your worldview.  What is more important:  healthy food that won't kill you when you should live to 80+, or a high volume of dirty food that will be yummy, but will end your life before it should?  Yes, organic food yields less, but it is better for the environment, better for the farmer, and better for you.  Mass production of food is poorly controlled, dependent mostly on the private sector, which cares nothing about you, only about profit.

Regarding French Fries, as an example... I prefer homemade fried food over anything processed en masse.  McDonalds fries are very tempting, but grocery-bought fries are for the lazy, and are actually quite disgusting compared to the "real thing".

Obviously, feel free to eat what you want, but don't assume that it is better just because it is what you like.  It took me a long time to figure this out, but it is true.  I used to eat all sorts of junk and would argue with my then-girlfriend how mass production is good for everyone, because it means more food.  But I figured out that more food does not mean it is good food.

Another example I would give you is Peanut Butter.  I love nut butters, be it peanut, cashew, almond, or macadamia.  But unprocessed nut butters are so much better than junk like Jif, which adds unnecessary ingredients.

I would start talking about tomatoes, but I don't want to put our readers to sleep.

Anyhow, I don't want to argue the point.  These are things you just have to learn for yourself.

Surely you wouldn't be happy if you died 10 years early because you aren't healthy.

Well a week is over and I just had tuna steak and parsley sauce. To be deadly honest, I can't be bothered to become vegetarian. I don't eat meat that much so it didn't really make much difference.

They only real way to be sure your eating healthy

is to hunt and kill your own wild meat and grow your own vegies.

Other wise how do you realy know those vegies you paid 5 bucks a pound for at cental market/whole foods are realy organic?

What does "organic" realy mean anyway?

Who checks if it realy is?
