How to change background

I know you can change the background of your city from the blue grid to something else but when I tried, my game crashed.  What exactly needs to be done to make this a background?

I had already converted it into a png file btw.

The background is a set of textures.  You will need to find them and make the appropriate changes.

Yeah they are in the plugins folder but I replaced the one I wanted and when I went to that zoom in the game, it died.

Are your images the correct size and name. I don't know if this it's required, but the default images and every new image I've used is always 128x128 and always has the file name 'background3d#' where # is the a digit 0 - 4 depending on the zoom level. Hope this helps.
