Sims have Mass-Transit-phobia

I finally made a city with over 50K sims but as with all of my cities, there is a bunch of jobless hobos living in it.  I have plenty of industries but they are separated from the residents.  I put a subway line, a highway, and countless bus stops paired with garages (in the res area) but still the people remain jobless.  I check the subways and bus stops and no one is using them.  I have the mass transit odinance enabled.  What is required for an effective mass transit system?

Incidentally, can sims come off one form of transit and onto another?  (like getting off the bus and get onto a train to get to their job)

they can change mode from car to train to bus is the most common however if you post a pic it would be more helpful however you might not have enough industrial zoning

The buildings that border the neighbor called Toxic Town (due to the pollution) are just fine. I get massive skyscrapers all along the edges since Toxic Town is full of nothing but industry. A side-effect is my ID and IM demand are as low as they can go and my IH-T is through the roof.

I think most of my problems were due to the fact that bus stops and subway stations were so far apart. Now that I know the sims can change mode of transport, I have a good subway-bus combo system. And a lot more of my sims have jobs.

You might as well use Monorail or simply upgrade your transportation network/map. Having few sims without jobs is still a bad thing

Well, if you have streets all around, you lay roads above them. If you want to control traffic in smart ways, you lay one way roads. If you already have roads that are indicated with red, then you should upgrade them to an avenue. If your avenues are red, upgrade them to highways. If highways are busted, use bus stations in the city. If it gets worse, make subway routes. If that doesn't help, then you need a monorail. If monorail doesn't help, then your city is badly designed. Simple lol
